When you look at a forum topic, read (or ignore) the subject matter that relates to the so-called tank shortage in the game and your response is ‘Just roll a tank’, do you even understand what the problem is?
Do you think there’s a tank shortage simply for the sake of their being one? You think it’s about people casually wanting to do something else? Did you even bother to stop and think about the reasons WHY there is a tank shortage in the world of pugs?
The reasons are simple:
- It’s a thankless job that becomes less fun because of this nature.
- DPS classes continue to ignore the rules of threat and CC.
So knowing this problem exists, explain to me why ‘just roll a tank’ is the solution to anything. All that would do is add to the disgruntled tanking community. Furthermore, how stupid is it to propose a ‘solution’ that in no way, shape or form allows people of non-tank classes, who have leveled into the 60s and want to play TBC on THOSE toons, to continue to progress with those toons. Re-rolling to do something they don’t want to do is a ‘solution’?
You’re not thinking clearly. If you disagree with the tank shortage, then state reasons why. You might actually be right if you have a well thought out notion. If you suggest players join a guild, that’s not unreasonable. Even guilds have such problems but at least you’ll be part of a small community that can grow tanks together and, more importantly, encourage each other.
But ‘just roll a tank’ is nothing short of short-sighted idiocy that looks more like an attempt to troll than an attempt to be constructive in any capacity. Of course, this is very likely what you’re looking to do anyway.

there is a shortage because there is a huge demand and you know why there is a huge demand ? because every “f…ing” guide suggests to farm dungeons instead of questing.

Moaning about a tank problem while not tanking is the problem. The problem is no one wants to tank. The only solution is for more tanks to appear but no one wants to do it
The point is someone has to make tanks. If you cry about it you don’t want to be the start of the solution. So you want others to fix your problems. Well they don’t want to either.
Hence no one wants to do the job.
People suck

Back to back dungeon spams is thanks enough.
I don’t know if I agree with the premise either. I don’t think there is an actual Tank shortage. My guild has actually got too may people wanting to Tank (for real). Tanks don’t like pugging because pugs can be disorganised and have players that don’t know what they’re doing in them. The Tanking role requires the Tank to take much of the responsibility for handling the consequences of that. As a result, many of us prefer to do guild runs instead of pugs.
So, the answer isn’t “roll a Tank”. The answer to the Tank shortage is “join a guild”.

so what you want to FORCE tanks to do pugs or something I’m not sure I understand what the point of this thread is.
The only solution to a shortage is to make more

You listed some reasons but left out what is probably the biggest reason… being tank spec simply isn’t optimum for soloing which is all most people care about. They don’t want to spec for a role that isn’t best for soloing, so they’d rather struggle to get groups than solo less effectively. If they actually tried it though they’d find out that protection soloing isn’t bad at all in crusade. This classic stigma that is apparently still around needs to go away. Once you get devastate at 50 now; protection solos very well.

I’ll throw an idea out.
Why not increase the difficulty of threat management and keeping agro? Make holding threat difficult so that good tanks can shine and they have something to strive for. This also means making dps and healers roles more challenging with making mobs hit harder so that stealing agro from the tank is almost a death sentence.
Making threat management felt in the game so you have to think about it and respect it, would give tanking a higher value in the grand scheme of things. Currently tanking could be considered boring because holding agro is easy, you aren’t being stimulated while you tank, you’re holding threat without trying while everyone else feels more engaged in their own roles in the group.
If dps have to challenge themselves racing dps numbers and healers have to challenge themselves by conserving mana and making life or death decisions, why don’t tanks have to challenge themselves to hold agro? Give them something to be good at just like every other role has so they have a reason to get invested.

Just roll a tank
If you aren’t willing to contribute to the solution you have no business complaining about the problem

I mean…
The real answer is go make some tank friends.
But people get mad when you tell them to make friends for some reason.

“Just roll a tank” is -a- solution to the problem, along with “join a guild” and “make tank friends”.
There is no ‘fix the tank shortage’ switch nor a simple and easy solution to the problem. We can ask people not to be so toxic to PuGs, I think it’s a pretty good rule of thumb in general, but at the end of the day, we have no way of enforcing that which brings us back to the solutions above.

hit me as really funny made my laugh
its kinda true
That’s not the problem.
That’s the symptom of the problem.

The real solution to the tank shortage is to try to make sure everybody, including the tank, has a good experience in the dungeon. That means paying attention, waiting for the tank to establish threat, and generally knowing WTF you’re doing. If you don’t know what you’re doing, just ask. Most people will be happy to explain it vs waiting for your replacement.

Ideally if more and more people experienced tanking first hand they would become better deepsers and those problems will lessen. No other proposed solution will actually solve the problem or involve changes that seem exceedingly unlikely to happen in this incarnation of the game. So roll a tank or stop complaining, sheesh.

without the fresh server option were all start together.
Only thing is to wait for the none boosters or any that is rerolling a tank if they stick with it to tbcc part.
Simple. For every DPS that rerolls that is 1 less DPS doing the following:

Because it’s the only solution given how classic content works.
Players need to be better about AoE and threat, but realistically the only way to fix the tank shortage if for more people to play them.

This already exists, there’s even a whole thread where someone is whining that threat is “broken” because they struggle too much to keep aggro.
