I get why certain things in vanilla were important to give accomplishments weight, but many of the design choices were just outright disrespectful of the player’s time. Basic things would take absurdly long for little return.
I’ll give you a recent example I went through with SoD. I get a quest near Eastvale Logging Camp to go capture a bunch of red Defias bandanas. Fine. Easy. The problem is that every player is also doing this quest. I do get a couple small groups going but these players come and go and nothing really sticks so I’m mostly on my own desperately hoping a mob spawns right in front of me so I can get the first hit on it.
That alone is frustrating. To make it worse, the drop rate seems to be below 30%. So even if I’m in a small group, we’re competing against other small groups just for an under 30% drop rate item. And I need six of these stupid bandanas.
And this is just a low level meaningless quest. But, sure, the red linen shirt I earned from the quest has more weight to it now.
You should all stick to retail.
Everything you are complaining about and glorifying what you like about retail is the exact reason we play classic.
It sounds like you either played retail first or like to be spoon fed the game.
The challenge of leveling in classic is the whole fun of it. The feeling you get when you finally hit level 20 or even every two levels for your new spell ranks. The grind is apart of the game.
If you have no time to play wow then retail is your bet.
If you like the grind and challenge classic is your bet.
Leveling and grinding for things is half the game in wow classic. Raiding is the cherry/cake for your commitment and grind.
It all depends what tou want from the game and this is why two world of Warcrafts is better then one. Heck you could argue there are three versions of the game now maybe four.
Btw leveling in SOD with the runes isn’t even close to how hard classic was. And classic isn’t even as hard as classic classic which i might even argue is way to slow ajd grindy. (And you would find the odd people who miss 1.0 before the leveling and exp requirement nerf)
To me SOD is the perfect balance between classic and retail.
And i still love wotlk era. Its my favorite. Its sad to see CATA coming but also MOP was good
Classic vrs retail are just two completely different games…
I disagree when people say classic was made to be difficult retail is definitely more mechanically difficult to play. I think they designed classic/vanilla around the idea that you were on a grand scale adventure. Where as retail is all about delivering you different ways to play the game that are arbitrarily connected.
I think the real draw for classic players is that it is all about social aspects and problem solving… for example when you die to a mob you learn how to not die to it next time. When your group wipes in a dungeon everybody doesn’t leave immediately. They will problem solve how to not die on the encounter the next attempt. Eventually in classic you have to join a guild to do end game content and you get to enjoy the ups and downs of progressing with old and new friends.
Whenever I lvl in retail I find that on every quest I’m pulling as many mobs as I can and killing them in one go. The goal being get to end game to enjoy content… and I always do get there in a short amount of time and it always leads to burn out because there is nothing left to consume or upgrade. There is no community in the game for me because of the quality of life features (why join a guild when I can dungeon/raid on my own schedule)… for example my friends can’t play on Weekdays so if I que a dungeon on a weekday I’m going to pug. During that run a DPS dies on trash then one of the pugs leaves. Or another example in order to get into a raid I have to submit a world of Warcraft resume to get into a group of random people who will all probably leave immediately after the first or second failure. But if I didn’t jump through all the gear score and resume hoops no group will take me unless my really geared tank friend ques with me.
I totally understand why people who like retail do… it has its own appeals for sure… however I feel like having less quality of life on classic leads to more casual game play and more fun experiences. It feels disingenuous to me when people say that classic is just trying to disrespect your time with grinding… When retail also does the same disrespect with a never ending bar that is always moving forward and if you take a break the catch up is like scaling a mountain.
At the end of the day what I’m saying is games are a waste of time but they are fun… and that classic and retail are apples and oranges.
And here I was expecting this to be a post about how getting to level 10 only took you 30 minutes.
Exiles reach is just peak modern design and once DF becomes new starting expansion its ginna be even better for new people.
WoD is best leveling.
When it comes to pure quality of life issues, classic is trash compared to retail and this is not even debatable
“Worth” what? What is the value of a 10? Or a 30 or 40, for that matter?
Hows your dot > dot > wand going?
Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand Dot dot wand
Oh crap an extra mob aggroed me! Time to run back from the graveyard!
“Challenge”
Leveling used to be part of the game. Now its just busy work until endgame.
How is your pull every mob in the zone and roll your face across the key board?
i DESPISE classic leveling. i hate the fact it takes so long to level up but all my friends who play classic are like “THATS THE BEST PART”
So much fun!
Equally as challenging as your wanding 1 mob while semi afk? Only much more fun because I’m pulling loads of stuff and actually using my abilities and doing damage. Also it doesn’t get boring because I don’t have to repeat it infinity times.
Having leveled most of my toons during BfA, I would agree. The WoD zones and the garrison was always something to look forward to.
If I can do it I will do it. Retail classes also have a somewhat fleshed out rotation very early over autoattack autoattack heroic strike autoattack autoattack. I am actually playing the game, not puttig up with the meaningless sense of “challenge” you are so fond of. Its not challenging, just unnecesarily inconvienent.
You had the unfortunate idea to fish without any lours.
Leveling in retail is an absolute bore.
Yeah I figured as much afterwards when I didn’t need it anymore.
