I think the entire point was to get away from that boring, repetitive schtick and set up something new.
Whether they did it well or not is another question, but getting away from the Faction War garbage that’s been holding back the writers for years is nothing but a good thing. They peaked on the subject in MoP, and it’s been a downhill slide ever since.
