Alleria is a leader. Player rules don’t apply. See Velen.
Other than that, she is not a void elf and never referred as one. Void Elves were followers of Umbric, changed via a failed ritual by the Ethereals. Alleria uses the void and consumed a void heart, but she is not like you.
Ion said that Void Elfs have been actively recruiting other elfs (High Elfs and Blood Elfs) into their ranks and growing their numbers this way.
There are High Elf Wayfarer and Silvermoon Scholar NPCs in the Void Elf starting zone (Telogrus Rift) standing with Locus Walker and being taught the void. Every now and then a portal from Stormwind opens and new High Elf NPC’s enter and join them to learn.
Canonically speaking, High Elfs (and Blood Elfs) like Alleria are and have been joining Void Elfs and learning to hardness the Void. They are now Void Elfs too, but aren’t purple as they weren’t subject to the explosion Umbric and the first were. These new customizations reflect these new members.
Ion said they might be adding in questlines to represent the addition of these subraces like the new Troll customization options, but it’s not a given.
I agree. I didn’t mind the skin tones, but giving them our hair colors feels like they’re hijacking our entire race
I’d honestly settle for more Nightborne options. If the Alliance can try to justify taking Belves, then I think it’s fair to get Nightborne with more diverse skin tones, hair colors, and facial options. Especially since Nelves are getting so much.
Except the Pandaren were always advertised as neutral, where many Belf players took pride in being uniquely Horde.
But it’s fine now Nelves and Velves have more skin tones than Nightborne and Belves. By miles.
Curious, would you be fine if Velves got new hair colors and styles from other Alliance races like Kul Tirans, Humans, and Nelves, but didn’t take any colors or styles from Belves?
I personally think this is a better solution that keeps the two races distinct.
I also, as an Alliance/Nelf player, am more than happy to let Nightborne have all of our skin colors and hairstyles! They really need a lot more customization…
I also think Belves would look amazing if they got the Nightborne hairstyles. Imagine female Belves with those pretty long Nightborne hairstyles
Alleria is considered a Void Elf post Seat of the Triumverate. The original plan as stated by Ion in an interview at there reveal, was for a High Elven appearance, and a Void Form toggle option, like Worgen, but optional. However they didn’t want the alliance to get 2 races with 2 forms, so they created Umbric essentially to be the middle ground for Void Elves.
Nightborne DO need love so do the LF Draenei.
Most who want normal hair colors suggest taking the Kul Tiran colors, instead of the Blood Elf ones. Does that count? But to be fair, it’s usually always balanced out with saying that Blood Elves should get the Purple and Blue hairs, like DKs already can go blue, and they did evolve from Night Elves.
I don’t disagree with the future requests for VEs… as future requests. Timing is everything, reading a room is everything, the lack of self awareness isn’t lost on me.
I am not pressed for more VE options, I’m pressed for an actual decent pass at BE options.
I would respect so much more if people just took a breath, and tried fighting for other people’s customizations. Not more for them and other people, just other people’s customizations. Because by and large a second visual theme is a big deal, as a HE fan I’m for sharing hairs across races, NE->BE for example more sharing of hair across the board, but I just feel it’s distasteful at this moment, and that’s my opinion and how I feel, and apparently a lot of others feel the same from skimming this thread.
I’m not against natural colors or styles, but I’m against Blood Elf colors/styles. I want the races to remain unique, and it seems some people just want them to be identical.
Which, as someone who plays a Belf and a Velf, that really sucks. Especially since most of my loyalty will remain to Belf racial identity.
I think they’re assuming that Blizzard will be lazy. I doubt very much they’d object if it were a slightly different set of hair colors. I also haven’t seen anyone at all asking for blood elf hair styles for void elves.
Honestly, I just want my current Velf hairstyle in a Dark Brown of some kind. I don’t care what race the color comes from. I’d just like a dark brown, and maybe a blonde. Lol.
Yeah, it was at the Blizzcon from when Allied Races were first announced at the end of Legion. I’d have to dig for the interview, but that was the original plan. To mirror Alleria’s void bits, with her being the sole leader of the Void Elves.
You’re right, I’m not going to read through a 17,000 post thread just to find the one wacko who actually wants blood elves, rather than Alleria style void elves, on the Alliance.
If you ever stumble across it again could you pleaseee link it to me? I’d really appreciate it!
This interests me a lot because if you didn’t know, there was actually something datamined from alpha for Void Elfs called “Second Skin Color” and “Second Hair Color” and files for skin and hair color exactly like Alleria’s void form (dark blue skin, pure white hair).
So maybe they have plans of fulfilling their original plan for Velves?
I think that a lot of races could use new hair colors. Especially the Nightborne, who unfortunately have only 3.
But unique racial identity is still important. I don’t even think people would feel this hurt about sharing blood elf aesthetics with the void elves of blood elves also got some more unique customization options.
Explain? The Sunwell is now a combination of both the Light and Arcane energy. It’s been unnecessary for Belfs to leech mana since TBC which was nearly a decade ago in-universe.
Why would they not return to their original eye colors?
