Just for kicks, if you have a ret, go level him and do some delves or dungeons

It’s an excellent point you’ve made that is worth restating: “simple things you can do are better then complex things you can’t”

Complexity might allow for you to do more damage but this can often be off set by the fact that complexity also introduces more points of failure meaning the simple and relatively low potential ability ends up doing more then high complexity high potential ability at the end of the day.

Complexity has to be worth it or else people are not going to be keen to engage with it. We often call specs like Ret “brain dead” but you could also be more charitable and say they are elegant, streamlined, or refined. That they minimize points of failure and perform steadily even in less then ideal scenarios.

Ret in M+ has to always be in melee range for their aoe crusader strike. They took away the extra range on it like all the other melee classes. Ridiculous change.

The point I’m making is that you would expect more complex specs which get their performance more heavily impacted by say uptime or movement to have much higher potential throughput in a scenario where they can stand still and bonk the target dummy, but they generally don’t.
It’s a balancing nightmare to make them have higher throughput proportional to how many as you’ve said it points of failure there are though because people WILL find ways to avoid them.

Of course they will but that’s not necessarily a problem if it is a manifestation of skill. But that is also why I’m way more an advocate of giving us other draws. Utility and what not.

Im gunna need to try frost some time iv not once touched it ever unholy feels weird for me rn
