I wouldn’t mind a few new friends OP if you’d like my email address. No gamers ty.
The way I see it, Blizzard has been slowly killing itself for years as it tries to endear itself to the esport crowd.
It didn’t happen all at once, either. The transition has been slow and deliberate; starting with heroic raid difficulty and, nowadays RWF/M+.
What you’re describing isn’t outgrowing the game so much as plain old bad game design.
So much of WoW has gone from, “We can rip off another guy’s idea and do it better” to “Lets just do what everyone else is doing.”
You forgot all the FOMO bs too as if these fools need rewards just for having more time or money, surely that won’t annoy people when they see something they missed out on just because life takes priority ![]()
I’m to the point that I haven’t completed normal raids anymore and don’t even care to. I have done about a handful of mythic plus on my druid and was like months ago. I haven’t been on retail in like 6 months. Mostly been on classic waiting for Wrath to come out. I’m on the fence about even buying the new expansion other than just for the boost and mount since I always get the deluxe one. If I do I’ll just level my druid and be done with it. I don’t feel like raiding or anything beyond leveling any more. I just feel like the life has been sucked out of it all.
I’m sitting here taking my nightly bath (2am east coast) with my bottle of vodka and I’m reading all of your responses and I’m actually kind of in awe giggling to myself
.
Kind of expected negative responses but all of you had something funny to say. Man I’ve missed how fun the community can be at times. Im glad you all could at least put your honest perspective in and I’m glad I’m not alone.
I still love this game and Blizzard or at least what’s left of it. I guess this is my last battle cry to try and get a response out of it ![]()
If you thought the golden age of WoW was original WOTLK–did you unsubscribe then, too, for not having LFD?
I was just fine without it. I’d fly to the location of the dungeon and we’d go from there!
It wasn’t difficult by any means.
Nah, I’m still having fun.
Nah, I’m still having fun.
That’s very silly.
Yeah, shadowlands has been pretty crap, and these gripes you’ve listed are not an uncommon opinion. It’s also the kind of thing they’ve trimmed from dragonflight. Well, except Mythic+. That’s very popular.
Cool. Let’s hope it’s great! ![]()
You might be right about the soul leaving. Not necessarily the soul of WoW, but the soul of an MMO.
The bulk of the casual content is PvE trash. The incentives just don’t feel all that great when they’re behind massive rep grinds and whatnot. It’s no better, no worse than what it was in the past; the difference now is competitors have way better incentives.
It’s hard for me to recommend any of the casual content when FF14 has relic weapons and amazing looking gear. I like WoW’s as well, but by no means do I care to grind out a bastion rep set. The FF14 old gear though? Absolutely.
Feels like Blizzard just doesn’t understand the casual appeal anymore. They can surely get by with going straight competitive but it really tears at my heart watching them care less and less about the people who originally loved this game.
I am seriously starting to think just putting in some FF14 level gear would be a huge move to incentivize players. Stuff like swim suits, butler/maid outfits, casual jeans/shirts. People want to live and breath this game and the fantasy aesthetic is wearing off. Given them something more real.
I’ve read this since 2005 on these same forums.
Yet here I am, with millions of other players 17 years later.
This is why there is always a “See you in XYZ” post.

Expansion after expansion, I too keep coming back to this point and it gets louder and louder with each cycle. And with the latest fiasco with class designers and the lack of actions on the mountains of alpha feedback for specific classes, I must say that it’s about time to check out for sure if something doesn’t change in the not too distant future.
You forgot to add your:
Too many people at blizz want to be the next person responsible for the next big change/ revolutionary thinker that saved or improved the game.
What you have is a bunch of bad ideas by ppl trying to make a name for themselves.
Nah, I’ve played since Vanilla and I’ll continue playing until either I die or the servers shut down, whichever comes first.
Convoluted attunement quest chains were definitely very intuitive and never required thotbot or wowhead.
Idk I feel like the game grew with it’s playerbase. Not everything they do is a win but that doesn’t exist in any game right now. Ashes of creation is the next big promising thing for mmo players and who knows when that’s happening
Lmao my playstyle has changed massively from playing 8 hours a day to 8 hours a week. ![]()
I don’t think I can outgrow it unless Fortnight comes to wow ![]()
But… but… some of your conduits might not be the maximum ilvl possible! You could be giving up as much as 2% damage from one of your abilities! Think of the conduits!!
…No, seriously, this is the right way to play.
Soul ash was a problem because it wasn’t like AP or Azerite which you could get from a wide variety of different activities. Sure there were people who felt like they “had to” spam islands for Azerite, but you didn’t ACTUALLY have to spam islands for Azerite, you could get Azerite lots of places. You can’t get soul ash lots of places, for most of the expansion there was only 1 activity that gave it. That was bad and they should avoid repeating it.
IDK if the person who made the cupcake in a bear trap analogy upthread was specifically thinking of Torghast, but I think that’s what fits it the best from SL, and is why some people really hated Torghast, because they felt obligated to do it for that legendary cupcake, long after they were bored of it.
A reward that is widely desirable should come from a wide variety of activities so that everyone has an opportunity to get it without repeatedly farming content they don’t like. Ilvl is one example, thus the three pillar system, but not necessarily the only one.
Hello, I see you made a thread about World of Warcraft losing it’s luster. I agree, that’s why I also play the greatest, largest, #1 MMO on the planet, Final Fantasy 14! Maybe you should try it as well! Besides that, I’m waiting to see how the Riot MMO comes along sometime in 2034 before I decide to quit WoW for good!
Thanks for your post and have a great day!
