I've hit a wall in my progress

Yeah, none of them fit my mage either.

I went venthyr because their covenant hall reminded me of a castle, which made me think of a wizard. But that connection is loose at best

The only covenant/spec combo I have that I would say is fitting are my venthyr shadow priest, and venthyr beast master hunter.

Shadow priests are dark and using mind altering magic fits really well

For my hunter, having 2 gargon pets and a cross bow, firing flayed shot is really fun and gives me bounty hunter vibes.

Overall tho I’d say there are only a handful of covenant/class combos that fit the classes we have.

Just because you pick the cov doesnt mean you become a member.

You dont walk the path of ascension as a kyrian

Or purge sins like a venthyr.

Just pick w/e and ignore it. You’re just some dude thats there not an actual member

Well spoilers:

Summary

The Kyrians will actually change their mind in terms of their absolutism

But Necrolords is the way to go! Necrolords! Necrolords! Ne-Cro-Lords!

Normally flavor and theme lead the choice for me but in some cases, I ended up going with “I have to press this button for over 2 years, so let me go with the one that feels less awful.”

Without spoiling too much, there is a Necrolord quest with Alexandros Mograine and you learn why he was sent to the undead lands of Maldraxxus over the devot and light blessed lands of Bastion, despite also hating the undead in life.

I agree, none of the covenants seem to “fit”
Shaman but it’s more so what they represent about the person. Bastion for example makes you lose your memories so you aren’t tied down by mortal bonds and can serve the Shadowlands in earnest. The Venthyr on the other hand make you live with your choices and want you to move forward.

At least for those two covenants they both have a different after-life philosophy, forget the past and move on or remember it and be better. So yea they are hard to look at on the initial level not knowing the lore, just pick what looks good to you and you will learn more later. If you hate it you can also swap.

Go Necrolord young shaman

Mild spoiler, but if you go Kyrian, you get to eventually teach them that losing your memories is probably a bad thing.

If completely stuck just roll a d4 and treat it some choice that was out of your control, a mistake of the cosmic sorting hat that has made you a stranger in a strange land, working towards eventually escaping.

I just choose whatever covenant has the best abilities, I try not to think about it too much.

Yup. You’re here for a job, best ability is a great RP reason to join

Sarcasm detected?

My point was that if none of the covenants fit one of my character’s stories I just went with whatever ability I liked best and left the covenant choice out of my RP.

Obviously the OP feels a bit more strongly about the RP aspect than others, which is their choice. Hopefully they will get past it and not let it block them from continuing.

All things equal, Night Fae has the best mission table set up. At the least, you can farm that most efficiently on them.

Shame the Jailer and Sylvanas couldn’t come up with a viable option.

In weeks from now, it just won’t matter much…
Pick whatever covenant… feeling no lore reasons, I’d chose necro lord… it’s a decent defensive signature ability, and it’s the easiest of the covenants to get to… time wise… better than flying halfway across Ardenweld and all the way across the other 2 zones.

As far as min max, I’ve no idea.

Well, both Kyrian and Venthyr have first-tier transport networks at the very first flight point in the zone so there is that.

Youre looking at what the npcs are in a covenant rather then their values and principals.
Ventyr is tough love cleansing of sins, necro is maintaining your warrior spirit in battle, kyrian is moving past who you were to find new purpose and resolve in duty and night fae is furry dance party.

All are unique in their own way but obviously NF is the only real choice as a nerdy qow degenerate…you know you watched zootopia and want to be with Nick Wilde.

VERY Piddy.

You personally don’t lose that by joining.

You aren’t being this. You’re working with them.

Being angry is frankly the last thing I see from the necrolords. They seem to love their lives.

OP, the covenants are supposed to allign with the unique personality you developed in your adventures through the world of warcraft, not with your class and spec.

who is Forgebrew? what is he like?

you wanna know who forgebrew is? he’s a dwarf .a surly, ale chugging, ancestor honoring dwarf. a dwarf that respects and honors the elements, and sees no trace of the ones he recognizes from azeroth.

a dwarf that looks at the covenants, and sees a bunch of self-absorbed people he does’nt care about.
a dwarf that’s sick of seeing heroes of the alliance and horde acting like a bunch of angsty teenagers.

a dwarf that’s tired of endlessly running around, fighting random threats to the world, and just wants to settle-down, open an inn/bar, and start a family (though, that’s not really relevant to the current topic),

needless to say, he’s a dwarf that’s sick of the nonsense, the run-around, and would rather just get-on with whatever’s supposed to be happening, instead of all this shadowlands business.

sorry if i went a little crazy there… starting to get sleepy, and it’s gotten to me.
