I've been wrong this whole time

I got into a slight argument in discord about this: player names. I hate players who name their toons stupid names. I greatly dislike even having someone with a silly name in my group.

Wait a minute said my discord pal, I know you are a stick in the mud about players not using fantasy names for their toons, he said. In a fantasy war game wouldn’t a covert agent of the alliance or horde even use their names- especially a rogue? “It’s even possible,” said my discord buddy that the forsaken would give up their human names for something more fitting of their condition.

So, I did it, I made an undead rogue and named him something fitting and I’m surprised it wasn’t taken. Please welcome, our newly raised member of the horde: Rotstink.

I have been playing alliance but I do miss my 60 undead lock (my first 60 right before anniversary).

You should play RP realms! Most people tend to have at least fantasy-adjacent naming conventions, and particularly egregious names are more likely to be asked to rename. On normal and pvp realms ya just gotta live with silly names as there is no rule against them, within ToS.

Not sure what you’re doing wrong, but my rot dont stink.

I also dislike ‘dumb’ names, but I hate intervening in someone else’s fun far more than I dislike any player’s choices for a name.

But of course, loudly protesting things in this game that do not affect the complainer is kind of a systemic behavior that should be studied.

All of my characters are famous people/characters with a pun related to them.

Al Sharpton is a reverend so that matches quite nicely with this priest.

Would you consider mine a “silly” name?

Imagine caring about some random persons name on a video game you would get into a discord argument about it.

I feel like the name of my Paladin, Smellybeard, would anger you… but I’ll have you know that it is a very appropriate RP name. He has a beard, and it smells delightful!

I don’t mind goofy names, it’s the names with all the special characters in them that drive me up the wall because I never learned how to do all that rigamarole. I had a guy message me about a crafting order I needed done and when I went to type his name in the “To” screen I had to ask him how in the world to do that symbol.

Hate is interesting, reflects more on you than the people with silly character names in a video game.

Glad you were able to get over it
