It's time to remove the cast time from Repentance

This talent has been dead for 8 years, Eight. YEARS. Since the moment a cast time was put on it in MoP it’s been basically useless, it’s long past time to remedy this mistake.

I like repentance, it makes PvP much more interesting in its current state as it’s a long incapacitate with good range that has clear and fair counterplay with great payoff for landing it and decent risk of being kicked and locked out of crucial spells.

If anything I just dislike that it’s basically a dead talent vs druids and shamans due to the humanoid requirement. But otherwise I think it’d be cool if more paladins ran it rather than fist of justice. Fist is just so much easier to use and doesn’t carry the same risk getting kicked on repent does.

They don’t for several reasons.

For starters, like you said, risk of interrupt when casting Rep. Secondly, we have to stop moving to cast it… As one of the lowest mobility melee in the game, stopping moving to cast a CC (which even the highest mobility melee don’t have to do for similar spells) is a horrific prospect…

And, as I just stated above, many other melee have extremely similar spells that have no cast time at all, look at Monk’s Paralysis, look at DH’s Imprison, neither one has a cast time and not only do both do the exact same thing but they are both baseline… Why should ours have a cast time when it’s a talent.

It’s been a dead talent for 8 years, it needs to be fixed.

To be fair, they have a much longer cooldown and half the duration. Though maybe a baseline repentance with a talent in its current slot to make it a longer cooldown and shave 2-3 seconds off its duration wouldn’t be too bad.

As for being the lowest mobility melee, that’s where the range on it helps out a bit if your partner can start the chain for you or if you hoj and the dps don’t stop repent from going out.

I’d agree it has very limited, if any use for ret in 3s but for 2s it’s incredibly strong.

Rep is used in some comps as is atm. It’s def not a dead talent.

Repentance is very niche. Though FoJ is just better utility wise as a 6 stun is very powerful in and of itself in all content. As long as it competes against that I don’t see too many people taking it.

Repentance should be baseline and maybe make it a talent to be instant cast, but with a slightly longer duration/cd.

This would also be acceptable.

Bottom line is Repentance in it’s current form is far from being worthy of a talent slot.

Just bring it back to what it was before, baseline for ret only, instant 1min cd. Voila.

It’s a joke that nearly all other incaps are instant (and baseline for most specs) where paladins have to waste a talent to get a casted incap.

I like repentance in its current form, i think its great. If anything I would like to see the cd removed from it for ret a’la Polymorph and Fear

Either remove the CD or the cast time and it’s a balanced spell.

If we had instant cast rep I would feel a lot more powerful in PvP that’s for sure.

There’s a lot more dead talents as paladins that need work

I actually use it all the time.

An awful lot of good Arena HPals take Repentance for it being a “dead talent for 8 years”. In fact, a full 33% of HPals run Repentance.
For Ret, yeah, it’s generally worse than FoJ or even Blinding Light due to the risk of being kicked. However, experimenting with it I’ve had some niche success using it to stop kiting. Retribution is slow, but that’s less of a problem if you Repent someone when the try to run away: ample time to waddle over to them while their mobility buff ticks out.

Not sure, but reading all your comments I wonder: is this supposed to be comedy? Because if so, it’s not even funny.

Likewise.

handsoverdoll show me where the mean ret touched you.

Not sure what you’re insinuating. I main Ret and I’m having a great time. Still having a great time on the PTR version of it, too.

Hard to believe while you are actively trying to hamper the spec.
But ok, to each their own, I guess.
