I did the achievement back in '08 or '09 when it was first available. I don’t recall it being difficult, but at the time, the RNG on BGs wasn’t really a thing. We would go and queue for the particular one we wanted unless I’m remembering incorrectly, so you could just do the one you needed over and over until you got it.
I had a guild with active PvPers at the time who were happy to carry me along. Without that, yeah. I can see it would be pretty harsh.
In case anyone is wondering! You can still queue for specific battlegrounds - you can click on the carat next to “Random Battleground” and then you should be able to queue for any specific battleground (as long as it exists in the current game, note that you will lose the random queue bonus rewards).
Honestly, the only slap in the face with holiday achievements was giving everyone 310% flying speed for gold the following expansion after we worked a solid year for the achievement to get the violet proto-drake.
I don’t care if they change the sub-achieves. What matters is they took a meta achievement that took us a FULL YEAR of completionism to get…for a marvelous and unique reward (which was the speed, not the basic mount that came in like 8 other colors), and then just let every player in the game buy it for gold.
We had the reward for less time than it took to earn before they just gave it to everyone.
THAT was the slap in the face, not editing an 11/12 year-old achievement for a new generation of WoW players.
In fact, I’d like to see a complete overhaul of the holidays. They have remained largely the same with very few (and only minor) updates since like 2010. It’s time for them to do a little work on those. New achievements all around for the holiday time might be nice.
It amazes me that the “Blizzard is caving to crybabies crowd” is picking this hill to die on.
There’s plenty of other things they could have picked. Hell, I for one still think one of the biggest mistakes was nerfing the early Cata instances and cultivating the “GO, GO, GO! PULL FASTER!” minimal communication/low attention span mindset.
What you folks fail to realize is that the achievement pretty much brings the affected battlegrounds to a grinding halt each year. As someone that doesn’t give a damn about Strange Trip and mount collecting, I’ve wanted it gone for the simple fact that battlegrounds absolutely SUCK when Children’s Week starts.
Between multiple accounts over the years, I’ve seen it all:
-Win trading (illegal in the ToS I might add)
-Temper tantrums when someone isn’t first to a flag
-Players mass quitting when they don’t get the flag
-Well geared players camping the graveyard in WSG when they realize the team is all ungeared achievement hunters
-Normal BG players going on a massive losing streak since 1-5 people can’t carry the other 5-35 (depends on the BG and how bad the PvP player to achievement hunter ratio is)
The list goes on and on. It’s not about making it easier. It’s about the fact that it was an unfun experience for all involved.
There’s still plenty of things one can complain about in WoW if you absolutely need to go 100% full throttle on a “Blizzard does everything wrong!” campaign.
I’m happy for all those people who are finally able to get their drake.
I did this achievement a few years ago with very questionable methods, after years of frustration prior to this. I’m not salty that I had to endure so much pain for this achievement and others won’t have to do that. I’m just full of joy that Blizzard finally listened.
I did this achievement back in 2010 as a person who never pvps and hates pvp.
I hated having to do it back then too but I did it.
But nowadays I’m thinking its better to just let more people have fun.
how sad you decided to remove that instead of having people step outside their comfort zone - you really don’t have to cave into people complaining about every inconvenience.
All you do when you do this is encourage more complaining about everything because people expect everything to be made simple. And doing that you ruin the game for others.
lol, that is just someone’s opinion. why don’t we just get rid of pvp then - it isn’t on par with game design - or how about all the boring story lines quests - that isn’t on par with game design.
so - then we should make all the PvP mounts available through PvE means?
It is literally your opinion whether it was good or not. That achievement was in there for over 10 years I believe and people complained about it every year yet all the other blizzard people didn’t change it. People like me who didn’t want to do that part just went out and did it and it wasn’t so bad.
Now because blizzard is getting their hands slapped they have to cave in on everything they don’t consider to be of value.
It’s just an account. I would post with my main but the characters are regionally disconnected from the European servers.
That’s part of a changing culture and standards. What worked a decade ago isn’t always the best solution nowadays. You can find the philosophy everywhere in life.
You associate the achievement with negative feelings because you were forced into the situation for getting the matron/patron title. I’m sorry you had to endure this but it’s also time to move on, otherwise you fall into the same crowd who wants to gatekeep x for their own sake.
Make the game accessible to everyone - and this also means accepting losing prestige. In the end, it’s just a digital good you do not own according the EULA. Don’t get stressed about it, just accept it. It’s a game.
