It's okay to minmax

I think very few people have a “you must conform” mentality. Like if you went against every guide and video with your build, came in to my raid, and topped dps, nobody would tell you to change. However, this game doesn’t really work like that now, we have sims, and the playerbase has gotten much better at playing and theorycrafting to where surprises rarely happen.

So it’s not really a “you’re making the wrong choice” mentality, it’s more that you’re making a choice that we know is 5% less effective than this other choice, and 10 other people are in LFG, or have applied to the guild who have made the more effective choice.

Minmaxing isn’t bad, If that’s how you want to play the game that’s perfectly reasonable.

Who I disagree with is those who demand covenants to be changed to suit them at the expense of those who prefer how it is. Those who look at your achievement page and deem that you’re not allowed to have an opinion because you don’t meet their arbitrary standards and those claim that those who are against them are “Just being selfish/Malicious” and their reasons they have for liking covenants how they are don’t really matter.

It is a huge exaggeration to say “everyone” loves to get BiS pieces. Most players are casual, and casuals are pretty much satisfied not having to make the sacrifices necessary to get that gear and settling for adequate gear to do their content.

Hey guys, Nards has 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3 on his computer. He knows what Covenant to pick now in order to maximize your character throughout each patch.

KUDOS RANKIN!

I see we’re done here if you’re just going to attack me.

No I’m making you reconcile with your philosophy by showing you the extreme of it.

And It is a huge exaggeration to say people make sacrifices to get their BiS.

No, you’re just attacking me instead of my arguments. Try again when you can respond to the things I’ve actually said instead of whatever strawman nonsense you’ve built up.

What monopoly? Literally anyone can form their own group with their own rules at any time.

Everyone’s favorite buzzword on the forums when they can’t account for their general argument in a debate: strawman.

Again Rankin, your posts throughout this forum have a pattern that says to the reader “I know what’s going to happen with Covenants” and you really don’t.

If you really did, you would know what Covenants married with content would look like in 9.3 - again, you have no clue.

And I’m the one holding a mirror to your philosophy on this - cry strawman all you want, it’s your philosophy.

No, it’s not.

This is hilarious considering your entire argument is based on you knowing what’s going to happen with covenants when you really don’t.

I’m detecting critical levels of irony.

All you’re doing is projecting your own logical failures onto other people.

A strawman argument is when you make up a weak argument and claim your opponent believes that argument, and then deflate that weak argument you made up and claimed your opponent believes. Which is literally what you’re doing by saying Rankin claims he can see into the future.

His philosophy is Covenants are bad now. That’s all he can go off of. He’s saying because they are bad now, they will always be bad. That’s not strawman, that’s me parroting what he just said, framed in another way.

The people in charge of Covenants are the exact same people who were in charge of Corruptions, Essences, Azerite traits, and Legion Legendaries.

There is nothing to indicate that Covenants won’t also be an unbalanced mess.

No, that’s you reframing what I said in such a way that it completely misses the point of what I actually said. AKA a strawman.

Really? BiS pretty consistently comes out of mythic raiding. Are you saying that we’ve been misled all this time and it doesn’t?

For a casual who doesn’t raid to turn themselves into a mythic raider would take a huge commitment, ie a sacrifice.

Obviously I’m not talking about people who are already mythic raiders. But I repeat myself.

Sorry I was meaning to tag Nards all this time.

I skimmed through the whole thread, and not once did he say “my philosophy is Covenants are bad and will always be bad.”

I meant Nards the entire time, I already said that above.

In the event my name changes, this is the Plebeian formerly known as Nards - WyrmrestAccord.

Also if you’re referring to the guy talking about covenants being bad, I dont think covenants are bad. I’m going necro on my alt for the bone wings and no amount of bashing for forums wars can stop me.
