Stop trying to fit Harranir in both factions, take this chance we are in beta to shape then into a full alliance race by saying they evolved from night elves becoming more “wild” in the roots of the tree
Stop trying to make then more ancient than everything like they existed before anyone else
Stop trying to make then better at druidism or that they care more about the world trees when they did nothing for ten thousand years when the trees burned and the world faced annihilation.
Stop trying to give troll and night elf aesthetics and themes to THEN, JUST USE TROLLS AND NIGHT ELVES
What you are doing is a grave mistake people often make while their characters for D&D and other tabletop rpgs, like they need to be so good and better at everything at level 1, that they are the sons of kings, or how they drove off a dragon from attacking their village or that their dream is conquer the world, Sometimes SIMPLE is better blizzard
In short:
Make so that Harranir were a recluse race of elves that evolved from night elves after they hear a prophecy that they should isolate themselves, the wild nature magic from the roots changed then into Harranir
.
Shift back the focus of the story to night elves and actual trolls as elder races of the world, bring back dark trolls to be active in this matter related to nature.
.
Make so that they are an alliance race only by re-connecting with their night elf kin, sharing their vision for a better future
.
Pair then with the amani joining the horde, SOMETHING I SHOULDNT EVEN BE TELLING ITS POSSIBLE
.
Amani are the forest trolls, horde is the faction of trolls, make so that The darkspear and the zandalari reconnect with their troll kin, help then restore their faith in the loa and make a bridge of peace between blood elves and the amani
.
With our new allies, each faction having one, we face off the light and the void
.
???
.
Profit
Peak cinema right here, i gave y’all the blue print and for free, its beta its not too late to fix it.
I’m with you, but your going to get a Horde civil war in the forums when you tell some folks they can’t have pudgy elf shamen and druid on their red team because you traded them for a third flavor of troll.
You say it’s not too late, but it kinda is. Not sure they’re capable of putting together a 2nd race with the levels of customization that Haranir have in time for launch, they can’t even do it for existing races.
Once they decided to announce Harronir as a neutral allied race it was miles past the point of no return. I dont like them and I suspect after this expansion they’ll account for less then 3% of the playerbase because despite the effort put into the customizations, they’re still lame. Not as pretty as elves, not as buff as trolls, they tried to find a middle ground and made no one happy. Swing and a miss. Again.
Conceptually they’re supposed to be something in-between elf and troll. Design-wise I feel like that got lost along the way.
Not sure what’s up with the bat and porcupine elements. Bat, fine. I guess. They’re subterranean. They live in caves? Put porcupine quills? Its all kind of messy and muddled.
But they clearly have an audience. Unlike the Earthen.
That’s the lamest thing since lame came to lame town.
And why on earth would you make it that they evolved from night elves? Night elves themselves already evolved from dark trolls, and the haranir look like a blend of troll and night elf. They are more like a missing link, or at least share a common ancestor.
It is way too late to make any major changes to the expansion. The stories are written, the quests designed, the new race is woven into it all. At this point it’s just a matter of adjusting and repairing until it’s ready to go.
No, trolls are native to azeroth and have existed for tens of thousands of years. The orcs come from draenor and arrived on azeroth through the dark portal just decades ago. While the orcs have regularly been allies with different troll groups there is nothing biologically connecting them.
So you are actually capable of reading and thinking, so you can understand how harranir have no troll characteristics and are just like nightborne are to night elves in terms of design
Saying harranir is the “missing link” is like saying nightborne and blood elves are the missing link between night elves and trolls, cause they have long knife ears just like trolls.
