Do you not see that increasing the player’s time spent in game also increases the game’s monthly active users?
A player has a goal in wow - said goal would take three weeks normally with three hours of play per day - blizzard adds a bunch of time wasting mechanics, said goal now takes the player 3 weeks with 6 hours of play per day. Player cannot devote 6 hours a day, now the goal takes the player 6 weeks with three hours per day…Look at that, blizzard just took one player that would have only been a MAU for one month and got two months out of them without adding any content to the game.
Literally the same reason why blizzard just changed renown levels from being 1000 rep to 2500.
So when people say things like “increasing time spent in game” it refers not only to how many hours players put into the game but also how long the person keeps their sub active.
Yeah regrinding flying after a tier and a half is never fun, heck we had to do it twice this expansion, once for the main zone areas. Then again for zereth motris cause why not. I get they want us to find all the little things they added in, along with increasing their MAU numbers by forcing us to slow down. Yet it simply isn’t fun to be forced to do anything you don’t want to at the end of the day.
Ive concluded that someone up top somewhere would let this ship go down first before taking any action to keep it from happening.
Its almost like blizzards competitors are making decisions for this game at times.
Pretty barren in leveling zones. It’s “War Mode” in name only in that regard. In max level content it is obviously a little more chaotic, but even then, a lot of people go about their business and will only attack if they are attacked themselves. I remember PvP being a lot more active in the open world many years ago at all levels. Even non PvP servers could have some pretty decent skirmishes at places like the Crossroads. Good times.
Slow down mechanic is all flight gating is. Has nothing to do with all the other rubbish reasoning that has been spewed since Mop. And the Dragonfail flying gimmick is exactly that-> another gimmick
Incorrect. I’ve been here from the start, in the middle and toward the end of Shadowlands. I’m also speaking from experience during BfA as well. Open world PvP isn’t what it used to be. I’ve been around since mid Wrath. World pvp is a shadow of its former self.
I don’t play Classic. That is not retail. I am talking about retail. I got to experience the game when it was new and fresh to me in Wrath and I personally can’t go back. Too much has changed. Some for the better, and some for the worse. Bringing up Classic isn’t really relevant here. We are talking about 2 separate games at this point.
Unless you are implying that people who want flying quicker would be regularly unsubbing from WoW 1 month after each patch drop. Which we also know is not true.
And if the main people this annoys are people who regularly unsub from WoW as often as they can…as soon as they can. Why should those people be catered to? They obviously have shown they do not want to actually stick around and play the game long term.
Literally the storyline.
Are you saying you weren’t going to do the main storyline quests at least once?
Far as game design apparently not much. Im sure if he said something to offend the SJW scene they would consider canning him though.
I think the wow staff needs moved to other projects and flesh blood brought in personally. Really all Blizzard games could benefit from moving the talent around every few years imo. Keeps stuff from getting stale.
Shadowlands at least felt like a easier grind than bfa. I was thankful for that.
Bfa however… oh my goodness gracious. It’s such a pain in the butt. I got it not too long ago and without having part of it done it’s an absolute annoyance to complete.
So you acknowledge that it has an impact on MAUs, perfect - thank you
Yeah, ok. BFA flying literally requires you to be revered with Nazjatar and Rustbolt reps… that takes a few weeks of farming every day. Who wants to farm for weeks just so that they can arrive at Dazarlor easier to farm GMOD?
Please see this person’s comment on BFA flying and I completely agree.
So minor its irrelevant. But hey. Its really weird to say “the people that want to quit playing WoW as soon as they can really need to be catered to, so they can quit even faster”
I wonder why any company would ignore this complaint.
Ok. But why ignore SL’s system? Is it because it would make a lot of these complaints look foolish? They have obviously tinkered with the system to make it easier/less grindy. So you better not acknowledge that. Or you might actually be honest.
Sure, when you look at the situation solely from the perspective of one player in my example, it appears minor. But when you acknowledge the fact that this happens to many more people, it’s not that minor anymore.
Blizzard wants to desperately increase its MAUs (you said yourself that this is the main metric that blizzard focuses on). Instead of making time wasting mechanics, blizzard should focus on making more enjoyable content that makes people want to play the game for longer. It’s really not a hard concept
I wasn’t ignoring SL’s system but I was discussing BFA because it was so awful.
Was SL better? Sure but they still didn’t give it to us for over a year and it required max renown at the time (which would have taken a new player a VERY LONG time to achieve because renown, at this time, was still time-gated). Now IF blizzard gave us SL pathfinder at launch and renown was not time-gated, then I would be willing to say it was an acceptable system.
Just because SL pathfinder was less awful than BFA pathfinder doesn’t change the fact that SL pathfinder was still awful.
