Sounds like this whole thing has been one big misunderstanding and you’re actually in favor of having a gay main character in wow just like the rest of us!
What a silly, funny jape this has been!
You were on our side the whole time, you just came into a thread asking for gay characters and told us LGBT folk shouldn’t define themselves by their sexuality for some entirely unrelated reason, that I’m sure you’ll clear up for us soon!
I… am having trouble even understanding what Brunhilda is trying to say there.
But I can already see I have really misunderstood what your intentions were with that post. I didn’t realize that you were replying to another poster and not the OP. Sorry!
Eh it’s fine. I think they were using some hypothetical situation where people would choose for their children to be straight not gay if they were given the option and therefore straight and gay people aren’t equal.
Ah, that makes sense. I’m sorry to have misread you. I can see where you’re coming from. You don’t want to play into a reductive view of sexuality where people are JUST their sexuality.
My concern, though, is that “don’t reduce yourself to an orientation” will turn into another reason to be ashamed of reveling in the particulars of your sexuality–and we really don’t need another one of those, especially when representation is the question at issue. I know that’s not what you’re arguing for, but do you see where I’m coming from in being skeptical about “sexuality doesn’t matter” ?
Lol claiming being trans is about your sex life. 99% of well conceived npcs aren’t gonna say things about being queer outright, that is true, but in a heteronormative world confirmation is kind of necessary. Also rofl people having opposite sex avatars is nowhere near equivalent to being trans.
Also, yeah, azeroth has a lot of magic, but do you really think a random poor human farm girl in Westfall is gonna be able to magic up some estrogen or pay a decent mage to do it for her? The only transformation magic us players have of that level is temporary toys, and most semi-/permanent form changing magic is strictly for PCs or Main/Hero Characters. Stop justifying erasure so you won’t be slightly uncomfortable lmao
They would still be considered trans tho (because they transitioned). Even if they use some spell instead of puberty blockers and estrogen/testosterone pills/injections like irl.
You don’t change genders, you transition genders, a transwoman wasn’t really a man, People transition because you don’t feel your body match with the way the brain expects it to be.
You can get to look like a woman or a man with hormone meds and then genital surgery and then it ereases dysphoria for most after transition is completed
It’s weird how there’s two trans people in this very thread and these people are arguing against their perspective’s existence in a video game. It just reads like “I don’t think those two should exist in WoW because they suck. Clearly my opinion is nuanced and matters more here.”
Okay I’m trans what are you going to do? Why shouldn’t I be considered a normal person? I mean if you just see me at street you wouldn’t have idea im trans and would be a “normal person” at your eyes lmao. It seems you’re just transphobic.
I was also told stuff like that in the discord server lol, and some think I was brainwashed to transition at 13 years old because “at 13 years old you can’t make that kind of decisions”. This is nothing honestly. I’m surprised how transphobic people is, like why so much hatred?
Make it an existing female character (that we don’t know her childhood) and reveal she was assigned male at birth, or a male character saying was assigned female.
Since nowdays trans people can look like cis individuals would be nice if they make a passable trans character in wow, so they don’t just promote the stereotype.
It could be revealed as a detail in a short story or some stuff like that, like they do with overwatch characters.
This is what I don’t understand from people who espouse your point of view.
Celebrating? No one is suggesting an in game holiday with prizes if you can prove a gay act. Merely the use of prominent gay characters.
Normalized? It exists whether you pretend it is normal or not. I hear that word used alot by Right Wingers when people talk about GLBT issues… but it doesn’t even make sense in this context.
Acknowledging things that exist is simply that. Acknowledgement.
Presenting an aspect of existence is not “celebrating” or “normalizing” it. By your logic, pickpocketing, faith, patriotism, murder, and extortion are being celebrated and normalized just by being in the game - and that is fine with you - but gay males or trans folks being mentioned is not.
