Open up the race/class combos so everything but demon hunters are available for all races, and only exclude demon hunters and death knights from races and future races because of lore reasons.
We have spent enough time fighting alongside people of different skill sets to have had the chance to learn from them. There is no reason we shouldn’t be able to have certain race class combos for superficial reasons when gnomes can tame blood thirsty dinosaurs and night elves can be mages despite forsaking the practice for over ten thousand years.
Yeah I agree the player is meant to be exceptional so it doesn’t have to bastardize a races entire culture if the player decides to be a undead paladin.
The race-class restrictions have got to be one of the most arbitrary boundaries in this game. Blizzard have already displayed that they don’t care about lore implications as it stands, so why people are against further easing of race-class combos is beyond me.
The players are so powerful that even Azshara is scared of us and knows we will probably succeed at whatever we’re doing. Yet we are still bound by a class restriction.
Oh boy, both a Zayelaa thread and “all classes for all races” thread #18462739.
Complete removal of all or most race/class restrictions is never happening, no matter how many times GD begs and screams for it. That’s just the bitter reality we live in.
It doesn’t matter, the fact is that some races wouldn’t or flat-out can’t adopt some classes:
Tauren and Highmountain tauren don’t have mages because they’re an inherently anti-arcane people
Draenei and Lightforged don’t have warlocks because they’ve spent more time fighting against demons than alongside them
Gnomes and mechagnomes don’t have druids because their culture is too technologically-dependent
Void elves don’t have paladins because the race and the class are anathema to each other
And even if Blizzard were to throw those races’ past histories out the window to appease the Karens who keep asking for this, the story team would have to come up with in-universe justifications for most of these new combinations now existing and the art team would have to develop new assets for them (paladin mounts, shaman totems, and druid and DH forms). That would be a sizable undertaking.
Covenants. Not all covenants fit with the overarching theme of every race and class, yet covenants are not restricted to race or class. Or else every death knight would be necrolord or venthyr (even though that’s probably going to happen) and none would be bastion. Same could be said for things like druids, hunters, and shaman for night fae, or paladins and priests for bastion.
This freedom of thematics regardless of race and class is no different than races being able to adopt the classes of their allies, as long as they make sense. The only classes, as I’ve said, that should be race restricted are ones that make sense to do so. Like with demon hunters, and death knights should we ever get new races.
Putting it mildly, in the audio book Alleria and Turalyon caused a small explosion by just touching each other, pretty sure infusing Light into an entity comprised of Void energy would look something similar to a thermonuclear explosion.
There is no concept, our characters are special snowflakes, the knowledge of each class can be found in this world, I will study warlock and fel because I can as a pandaren, nothing stops me from doing that but blizzard.
I can understand PHYSICAL limitations such as tauren rogue, or pandaren demon hunter but you cant and should not ever limit classes based on race because “X race is brainwashed and cant think and be X class cuz their culture says bad”
Especially since we are not bound by our place of birth
