Is WoW better played on Linux or Windows?

Messing around with dragonflight so far on Linux Mint 21.1. Running WoW through Lutris and tested with both Nvidia and AMD gpus (3080 XC3 ultra and 6800xt Reference).

Despite both having the same performance in terms of raw numbers, the rtx 3080 was just a smoother experience. This happen in places with high density or a lot of clutter on the screen only.

Switching back to Windows 11 and both perform identical. The issue was not present for the 6800xt on the windows end.

At the end of the day. Performance for both windows and linux are almost identical with Windows edging out just ever so slightly.

As far as I understand the Radeon 6800XT cache was busted under Linux. Not sure if Kernel 5.15 fixed that. Until that issue is fixed I don’t see your Radeon experience improving.

That is freaking impressive. The X3D chips can overcome the trash tier Windoze scheduler. Nice!

Just for some games. WoW is just more fluid in windows.

For the most part MintOS was snappier than windows just overall a better experience especially if the game is natively supported on Linux.

I would love to stay over in Linux more but I have a few games that will auto ban me due to their game guard.

During BfA I had a dual boot setup of Ubuntu and Windows 10, so I did a bit of comparison. On average, I got 5% better framerate on Windows. Linux also had some severe drops in framerate when certain ground visual effects were present.

I have since switched to Linux full-time, as well as replaced the aging Nvidia GPU with an AMD Radeon 6800XT. It has run flawlessly, and I expect never to return to Windows.

Awhile I am not experience any framerate drops I notice my 6800xt was not running as smoothly compared to the windows counterpart and nvidia gpu. Even lower the setting to the lowest it was still there so I suspect its something else.

Perhaps what Aribeth mentioned with the 6800xt cache is an issue. I didn’t really look into it.

I think what this thread really means is that Linux is getting whole lot better at supporting WoW and it runs as good as Windows or better.
