Is this really toxic enough to warrant a 7 day ban?

If you have to edit it to be able to post it, it’d be against the rules. So yes, it’d be warrant a 7 day temp. action. You’d have gotten another account action before this that basically turn off your chat for a week.

Profanity, including masked and abbreviated, has always been against ToS since 2004.

Since prior warnings and penalties weren’t working around late BFA early Shadowlands they changed the penalties for Profanity and Toxicity to a set amount. First offense is a 7 day silence, 2nd is a 7 day suspension, then 14 days, then so on and so forth to a cap of 6 months.

It’s simply best to not use profanity in public channels, as all it takes is someone to report a message you sent with an f bomb to receive a ban.

I suspect you mean suspended, usually a first offence is just a silence. A ban is permanent. Something tells me this was not the only thing said either.

It can lead to a permanent license closure though, so I would recommend less toxicity ultimately.

If the suspension is for Profanity/Toxicity the report is linked to a chat you said.

removed what i said which is needed for context, can be found here Do you think this line deserves a 7 day ban - #68 by Voidarcane-whisperwind

The duration you receive isn’t really determined by how toxic or inappropriate the comment was. The penalty is based on if it was a violation or not and the history on your account.

So your first offense on the account is usually a 7 day silence. The second is a one week suspension. Then the penalty tends to escalate from there going to a 2 week suspension, etc… If the violations continue the account will eventually be closed, though we always hope it never gets to that point.

So yes, your violation was enough to earn the penalty you received.

They didn’t exactly ignore anything, Dman. They informed you how to report behavior you believe may violate policy. Using the right click report option to report potentially inappropriate behavior is how it is done.

Beyond that, they are not going to initiate an investigation after the fact based on “a player in chat” nor can they “review the chat log from the match”. That isn’t how that works. If you had a character name and realm and approximate time frame, maybe. Though the comment isn’t necessarily something that we’d penalize for by itself.

It is important to understand that, “mass reporting” isn’t the reason you received a penalty. It was violating the Code of Conduct. If there was no violation it wouldn’t have mattered that you were reported.

I would also recommend closing your tickets. Support is not going to tell you what actions may or may not have been taken regarding another player, even if they launch an investigation.

Lastly, STOP using inappropriate language on these forums. If you have to mask the language, especially in order to get around the forum restrictions, that’s a massive and obvious hint that you shouldn’t be using it here.

Masked language is just as much a violation of our policies as if you were able to type it out. Doing so may result in your forum permissions being suspended.
