Is there a way to increase view distance?

Thats laughable, they did it because the damn engine couldnt render that much at once cause we all had 512MB RAM and small video cards

Sorry to necro the thread. I used:

/console cameraDistanceMaxZoomFactor 3.34

While ingame, type /console farclip and then a number from 0 to 4000, might go above 4000 but ppl say game client can crash. I’ve set it to 20000 once to try but nothing crashed. for your own sake keep it under 4000 just in case.

Example: /console farclip 4000

^ This should work. But the main thing you are concerned here is the mist/fog that prevents you to actually see that terrain’s textures from that far of a distance. I don’t know yet the cvar for that but as soon as I find out, I’ll tell you. In the retail client the view distance, as you know, is massive and with one slider it changes the farclip, mist, and whatever else is in it.

EDIT: The fog distance is /console horizonStart (and then a number from 1 onwards). This is the Master fog scale, set fog horizon distance also has some control over terrain lod for terrain beyond the horizon. Max is about 10000.

Yeah. Many of these guys who think they know stuff about the game, actually don’t know shi t. don’t listen to him/her. there’s no view distance slider. there can only be a console variable that allows you to do so but i don’t know if that’s the case with this version of the game.

You can adjust camera distance with the “camera” setting Interface Options/Camera. Set to a max of 50 and you can scroll out quite a way.

this does not work in classic, also please dont necro old threads

all right

Make this macro:

/console cameraDistanceMaxZoomFactor 4

Actually /console horizonStart does work - just not sure of the upper bounds of the integer used. If you set to /console horizonStart 100 it seems to be roughly 100 yards and makes viewing anything past that distance greyish/green fog setting to 10,000 (which was posted as the upper bounds in an earlier post) does in fact increase the draw distance back to normal. So long story short, no there is no real reason to use /console horizonStart in an attempt to get terrain to draw further ahead, as the default, potentially controlled by the env. detail slider, already does this.

View distances were still much further.

No. It is very possible and todays vidoe cards are more than capable of handling the longer view distance. This was actually discussed prior to classic launch. It was considered a change to the museum and those ppl didnt want any changes. They came up with retarded excuses when it was pointed out that they could adjust it or not use it. Just like lfd. Its not about changes. Its about forcing everyone to play exactly lkke they do.

He was actually referring to CVar Farclip which is a variable that controls the view draw distance of the whole environment and it still is in the game wow vanilla classic just not shown in the settings.
Typing /console farclip [number] in chat and then pressing Enter changes it.
I remember that back then it was a performance drop on the gpu when setting it to 2000-4000 or so (or performance increase, depending if you reduced it below your current setting or increased over it)

Only thing is the miniumum view distance is already quite high by default and can’t be further reduced as it once was the case, and changing this setting won’t let you see too much of a difference, except in the barrens maybe as opposed to teldrassil. Have to try it. Once we could set it to only be able to see about let’s say 50-100 yards around you to increase fps. Many expansions ago we could set it THAT low indeed

Type: /console farclip [any number between 1 and 4000]
…although I don’t know if 4000 is the upper cap, could be 1000, or could be even more than 4000, who knows… have to test it somewhere like barrens where terrain is straight and vast.

Example 1 to type in chat followed by Enter: /console farclip 50
Example 2 to type in chat followed by Enter: /console farclip 1000

P.S. There are many more cvars that I don’t remember the commands for any longer, such as reducing or increasing weather (number of rain particles) effect and so on.

it does work in classic. type /console horizonStart 100 and then type /console horizonStart 1000 and see the difference.
Also, don’t worry about necroing old posts, it’s always better than creating new ones just to have a million posts to confuse people. This isn’t reddit luckily.
