Not even a little bit. On the contrary, I’m finally maining my shadow priest again after several years away. I hated the way shadow played in Legion and BFA. So for me the magic is back, not gone.
I boosted a shaman. There is just so much more utility the shaman brings than a priest. A priest can do the job but a shaman does it better. Disc only brings spirit shell where as shaman brings mana tide, better throughput and efficiency, an aoe stun, purge and bloodlust. It’s not even a competition in what the better option is. Disc should get prayer of mending back and the power infusion legendary should be a talent.

I felt this way about Mage (my love since vanilla) and I rolled a spriest this time around. Maybe the spark is gone, perfect time to try a new class.
I love priest but I am still a relatively new priest. If/when I get bored I will go back to blowing sh!t up with my fire mage.

I’m still playing the same character from launch so the class has ebbed and flowed over the years. I miss the discipline from Legion (right before it became super popular and rebalanced) as it really scratched my itch to be a defensive player and still have the big heals. Maybe I’ve just gone so long as holy since then, but I am thrilled to get shadow word pain back once again. It was an ability we’ve had before so it’s weird to be happy to have what we should have kept all along. I now have a way to instantly tag a mob, especially since people are dogpiling on quests and rare mobs so quickly. (The other instants I had were on long cooldowns.)
As for the magic, it hasn’t quite been the same since they tried to make each spec be extra different from each other. Spells we previously shared became exclusive to one of the specs and that just was a tough pill to swallow because it didn’t matter which spec I switched to, there was always something missing. I’m happier with holy now than I have been in the last few expansions though.

Not sure why I forgot to quote this because, yeah, why did they gut the class of so many of its more flavorful abilities!?
Regardless of how they perform, Demo lock and BM hunter ooze with the “class fantasy” we were promised a while back. Just not feeling that with either Disc or Holy.
At least shadow LOOKS the part…
brm tanking in mop might have been one of the most fun things in the game

Hate to say it, but since Vanilla, Priest has always been clunky.
I know shadow and disc is great at the moment, however this doesn’t change the fact that the class as a whole just feels so clunky compared to any other class.

And some other folks in this thread that have given me some insight as to why I feel this way when I play it.
Not trying to tell anyone to not enjoy their priests, was just looking to see if there was any pattern to the feeling.
I know I’m going to get yelled at for this but ever since the shadow changes for this expansion It has lost every ounce of magic it held for me. I loved voidform, yes I know the issues with it please dont yell at me Im answering OP’s question. And without it the spec feels so empty to me. Uncompeling. There is nothing interesting or fun about it to me anymore. Its just a basic dot class with a weird cooldown main spell thing and I just. It breaks my heart. Ive healed in the past and have tried healing again this expac but its just not fun enough to keep me here.

I can totally understand this. Admittedly, there was a thrill in certain situations where the rush of building to a void form and then trying to maintain it was crazy fun and incredibly exhilarating.
But then you would go do literally any other content and everything took so long and was so annoying that I hated about 80% of my time in game. The 20% awesome was just not enough to keep me in and I unsubbed.
Now, the spec is the smoothest caster I have played. Very few cooldowns except defensives or burst, so I always feel in control, while still having procs and insanity to manage and keep me engaged. They even have a mini version of voidform, but not like it used to be.
Basically, I feel like Shadow went from being a spec of incredibly high and low points, to being something more steady with short durations if high fun, but not as high as it used to be.

Like Samos said, the removal of chakras and lightwell really drained a lot of the uniqueness out of the spec. Now they feel like the most basic vanilla healer except everyone wants priests to play Disc instead because of how abusable SS is for the moment.
