And just like that, all hope was once again lost to the darkness.
i expect ms to act like activision on steroids and be more detrimental to wow than blody kotex / activvizard was.
The will seek to monitize it every way including selling data to others just like ms already does, and they want to control all platforms used, and dominate everything from phones to desktops to micro controllers and plc controllers
Do you want to see skimpy protoss dancing on mailboxes?
Because this is how you get skimpy protoss dancing on mailboxes.
In all honesty we don’t really know yet if it will be good or bad for us.
But I’m leaning towards bad.
Seeing all the white knights saying this is bad, means it’s going to be good for the rest of us.
A bunch of guys were telling me about it at work and how they were going to sell some cryto-coins to buy virtual sneakers or some such nonsense for insane prices.
All I could think was “and you guys carry guns for a living”.
A slight glimmer of hope is that Bobby will continue until the deal closes. What happens after that is still unclear (though there’s a definite risk that he’s staying).
Gotta admit - I thought the techno-dystopia would be a lot more androids and cyborgs.
Not… not this.
I hope I am wrong, but when you look at the comparison of Microsoft buying Rare and Microsoft now buying Activision Blizzard, I don’t think this is good news for Blizzard. Both companies were juggernauts in the late 90s / early 2000s, and if it ends up being that way, Blizzard could simply be annexed into other projects / departments.
However, one huge difference is that Blizzard has its IPs. Rare had a lot of its IPs owned by Nintendo in some way, where Blizzard does not. Time will tell I suppose, if Microsoft decides to right the ship or liquidate and GTFO
if this news is true its good news, microsoft is gonna wanna make money ofc, but their programmers are the real deal and maybe they wont stoop as low as actibliz with the psyops game dev model
im guessing the news is real, stock surged $64 to $81 in 1 day - its like a vertical wall on the graph lol
Any speculation is a waste of time. We have no idea what’s going to happen.
Hopefully, the crappy servers get moved to the microsoft cloud and perform much better.
I have 70 billion reasons to think people need not worry. The investors aren’t worried and nor should the players be. I am fairly certain Wow ain’t going anywhere for sometime yet.
It can happen. If someone higher up doesn’t like pathfinder because they play the game… If they’ve never played WoW before then you’re right
The $70 Billion for them revolve around Candy Crush and CoD.
Blizzard is clearly an afterthought here as WoW doesn’t come close to the amount of revenue those 2 generate, every quarterly call indicates this.
Just go on twitter and see the engagement it all revolves around CoD and Sony as that’s the bigger market.
Will it revitalize WoW? No
Will it be sweet having WoW sub folded into gamepass? Hell yea
Terrible until Bobby is gone.
Then it might start to do well again with infinite resources instead of cutting as much cost as possible to fuel Bobby’s yact endeavor.
Just look at how well Mojang is doing.
I’m not looking forward to having to use my Microsoft account for every Blizzard game I have. I try to keep messing with that to an absolute minimum. Also do not like the potential to drag us along into new OS, or OS features in order to play. I have seen a large amount of information about Windows 11 not being as secure/privacy as 10, but I am not saying that myself, just articles read.
Microsoft was great in supporting and backing Age of Empires II. They realized there was a strong fan base that kept the game alive all these years. They came out with Age of Empires II Definitive Edition to the delight of all the games fans. They continue to support it with downloaded content and expansion packs.
I bring this up because Age isn’t anywhere even close to the size of Wow. Microsoft was awesome in recognizing there is a winning formula in the game and were careful in addressing it in a way that stayed true to what the players wanted. The gloom and doom stuff just doesn’t apply here. I think Wow is in good hands and I feel good about the games future.
How much worse could it be? And if it does get worse it will be a dead game for sure, so we won’t need to worry.
