Mount models get reused all the time though? Look at the Vicious Skeletal Warhorse for example, it has a red recolor that anyone else can get. Same for the Ghastly Charger which is just a spectral recolor of the normal Undead horse mounts.

Y’all expected a giant kitten or house cat when they gave it the name saber? it was ALWAYS going to be a smilodon / nightsaber style mount given its name . . . only time I’ve seen a giant house cat come up was that one fan art where someone sits inside the dang thing (like that was ever gonna happen) so yea . . . not official.

Boogercat is about what I expected it would be.
It was a “gooey slimesaber” indicating some thematic consistency with other “-saber”-style cats.
No, the actual slime cat mount is very much not a reused model. It has the cat rig, yes, but everything about it is a new asset: animated skin, a full skeleton to go inside the slime, a new saddle model, etc.

I don’t understand what’s not to like about it when you said you liked the fan concept art linked in the thread. Aside from the saddle/harness, what they made delivers on exactly what the fan created, just realised within the WoW style/engine compared to a flat drawing.
Is a big war kitty, it not gonna look like a tiny house kitten. It would be more confounding if it did.
It isn’t bad, but I would have preferred something cute like the pet.

Let’s take the serpent anims into consideration here.
The Yu’lei, Daughter of Jade and the Abyss Worm mount are basically the same thing. Both use the same everything, but they are worlds apart in execution.
This looks like something a Night Elf would get for collecting the ashes of their tree. It’s Sabercat that matches literally ANY of the other millions of Sabercats.

The pet model is much better than whatever that hideous monstrosity is. That’s as bad as the Zhevra mount or the sparkle horse from WOTLK.
