The average age of the WoW player in 2020 was 31 years old that would make the old timers around 15 years old when they began playing this game in 2004. A 15 year old has a lot more time to play video games than a 31 year old, unless said 31 year old is on the WoW QA team, in which case they’d play all day as part of their job.
An aging mmo population doesn’t have the time like they used to and wants things to be streamlined so that the time they do spend playing their favorite game is productive. If you and blizzard want to stick your head in the sand and ignore it, go ahead. There are plenty of competitors that recognize this and would love those customers to come play their game.

It’s not very subjective as far as Classic goes, considering its raids were getting curbstomped by top guilds and mediocre guilds alike while current raids are taking most top-end guilds 100+ hours to fully clear the first time around and that have some bosses taking guilds well over 100 wipes. See: Halondrus, Anduin, Rygelon, and Jailer EACH being 200+ pull bosses for many guilds.
There are some objective things about raiding, and old-school raiding is objectively a joke by modern standards.
No, addons ruined WoW. People also forget strat and videos of strats took a few weeks after release. No people just mimic others who show video on the encounter.
This is the key point IMO: in retail, you’re fighting the boss.
In classic, you’re fighting the game mechanics.

Short answer, raids are much harder now then they used to be, look at classic, tbc, and wrath.
Long answer, raids back in the day had much more gimmicky mechanics and everyone played on a potato with 500 ping, do a modern normal boss at 10 fps and 500 ping and see how much the difficultly goes up, also youtube wasnt really a thing till wrath, so no easy access to boss guides, add to it that most of the playerbase was WAY less informed on what was good and what wasnt.
Want the game to be more fun and challenging? Get rid of all the addons carrying you. How they are allowed during a competition, blows my mind.
