Is Modern WoW Music Distracting?

the dragonflight soundtrack is great

granted i muted my game and usually listen to 2000s trance or something similar
the great mute happened about a year ago when i attempted to camp tlpd for about a week and listening to the storm peaks music had me about to peel my skin off
never got turned back on

Yea its very well done and sounds great. Thats not what anyone is saying. Just saying that its distracting from the game play instead of feeling a part of the game.

ya shoulda been more clear

honestly i dont get it being distracting, the music that i listen to would 100% be considered more distracting. however when im powerleveling a toon or mindlessly doing world quests i need music that ā€œlocks me inā€ i guess

but god help us all if wow has phonk in its soundtrack

I explained everything very well. If you read what I posted, you would have understood. But you didnt, so you didnt.

I personally don’t find it distracting but I can see how someone else could. I think there’s a pretty clear difference between modern WoW’s music and the olden days; the new music is very cinematic and the old one is more atmospheric. This goes hand in hand with how the overall game feels–before Cata it was more like being in a world and after it was more like being in a movie in my opinion.

I like the new music and the old music.

I’ve always enjoyed wow’s music

chill i meant i shoulda been more clear
i shoulda been more clear 2x i guess

A lotta wow music is just atmosphere stuff. So I eventually start tuning it out or need to go get my own music just to keep my brain from being bored.

Its a shame because I’ve pretty much been spoiled on games that have fantastic soundtracks and know when to use them. FF7 Remake, Sonic the Hedgehog both old and new, Hi Fi Rush ( Altho that game is built around fighting to the beat so of course the music slaps ) , Devil May Cry , Monster Hunter, Bloodborne. That kinda stuff.

We are not talking about if you like it or not. We all tend to agree it sounds very good. But it feel separate from the game. Like one person put it. Its to Cinematic and less Atmospheric. So it doesn’t blend in with the ambience and become part of the game.

Oh sorry I misread earlier.

Hmmm I don’t feel the disconnect. The music matches the zones to me and the atmosphere.

Music is fine, I always leave it on my first time through an expansion.
But I always turn it off later to blast some W.A.S.P. or Powerwolf or Eternal Champion or something when I end up doing things that I don’t think are very diegetic such as M+ or raiding above, like, Normal.

Man, Zerith Mortis music is amazing to me, here’s one example that got me immersed in this beautifully geometric, mathematical, inorganic landscape:

I haven’t listed to wow music in years since I always have my own playing.

I always loved listening to the little song that happens around the lil dudes in Zerith Mortis

It’s just so cute

Yea, thats distracting to me.

And here’s some great music that’s not wow related but I have playing on loop on the background when not on disc:

Understood. I think the king of immersive music for me is Jeremy Soule, especially his TES IV Oblivion soundtrack. There feels like little to no break when songs like Watchman’s Ease and Minstrel’s Lament play back to back, so there’s no jarring ā€œend of good partā€ in those songs.

Sometimes I’ll have ambient AI-generated music on in the background because it creates a sonic depth for me without penetrating into the ā€œoh, that’s a nice hookā€ part of my brain. If that makes sense.

This is the music I like best. See how it can be cinematic, yet also take a back-step and let the ambience come in to be part of it all.

Yeah. Lotta whole notes and sustain and a largely nonexistent melody, as opposed to music that you can hum that has those hooks. I like that ear candy, but music (and art) can definitely be pretty personal stuff.
