There has been a few good looking mail sets - and often depends on the race / gender wearing them.
But for the most part, I don’t think the Blizz art team has ever really honed in on a clear theme for mail sets like they have for the other armor types.
I agree that most mail sets aren’t that good, but we still have some decent stuff that we can mix together and create something good. My current transmog for example, I loved the end result. But obviously it also depends on each person’s taste and preferences.
Also we have all these transmog sets from trade post and cash shop, that are usable by all classe, giving us more options.
I think this is part of the problem; they’re low population so they’re at the bottom of the priority list when new armor designs are being whipped up/reworked. One might even deduce that leatherworkers don’t bother filling out their mail armor crafting specialization tree because, aside from hunters, the crafting demand isn’t worth the points invested in that tree.
I speculate that devs give it low priority and so do player-crafters.
Mail is definitely the ugliest armor type. ESPECIALLY for hunters. Evokers and Shamans can have some cool looking sets but hunter sets are always unfortunate.
If we’re just talking about mogs - mail offers plenty of options.
As for the actual value of the armor - elemental shaman is basically an armored mage with healer abilities and a portable tank. Still my favorite class.
While leather has some cool mogs, they are more limited in some ways, for example, zero leather bikinis, not that anyone needs to wear bikinis. But leather does have the most sports bra options.
idk, I’m not a dungeon player, just open-world, and man what we get is not that great. My main is a bmhunter and trying to put together a decent mog is hard - though tbf it isn’t easy with leather either - just a little bit better.
