Is layering good or bad? Answer here

And we have one. You just don’t like this, so you’re making a massive stink about it, just like several people today.

I mean really, if you’re that concerned that you think this is going to break the game (it won’t) then don’t play man.

Farm your own gold and buy the items, get a guild and PvP these people until they disappear into another layer so you can camp the black lotus yourself. Whatever floats your boat, but don’t try and act like the game will be destroyed over layering. People will be camping and farming all over the map in every layer.

Why not just population cap servers at 3,000, add ques, and make 100 servers or more? Because $$$…

They are sacrificing gameplay for the sake of money. That is the reality of the situation. It is going to have devastating consequences and everyone who is a veteran in this community knows it. Watch kargos live stream, he is visibly disturbed by the news, because he knows as does everybody else who played Private servers or vanilla wow back in the day.

Ok they will jump from layer to layer.

But according to your estimation ain’t there gonna be a bunch of neckbeards doing this and competing for the devilsaurs?
Now collectively they have 5 layers worth of devilsaur leather but barely any buyers because nobody has leveled up yet.
They are all trying desperately to sell the damn things and thus the price is driven down because of market oversaturation.

How many layers do you expect to exist. How many layers do you think will exist that won’t have someone else in them farming/with the same idea and intentions as everyone else?

Sorry dude, this makes no sense. More like, because they don’t want 50%+ dead servers again and long term server health will benefit from it.

Don’t buy Devilsaur items then lmao and the happy merchants spiking up the prices will see that what they’re doing isnt monetarily viable. You don’t even need to follow any of those crappy pre-BiS gearing guides to clear Molten Core in any way shape or form, I remember powerleveling on Northdale and I did a full MC pug right off the bat as a fresh 60 in all my leveling greens/blues.

I like games that are not broken. I like to feel like I have an equal shot at getting gear, items, or gold as other players.

Why are you trying to shame me for wanting a fair time investment with the next guy? What vested interest do you have in trying to pretend like its okay that some players will massively manipulate this system and gain unfair advantages that massively effect the rest of the game for everyone else?

No because they are trying to achieve healthy server populations instead of 100 dead servers.
Blizzard doesn’t want to merge servers because it causes character name conflicts and guild name conflicts and all sorts of other problems.
Layering is a much better solution.

This says, “I didn’t play Vanilla and am ignorant!”

Devilsaur gear is pre-raid bis for several classes and is considered near mandatory for 1/3rd of Vanilla. Downplaying this only shows that you have no idea what you are talking about.

This implies that it is easy to know where you will end up. If player 1 invites player 2 to a group, there could be a chance that they end up in either layer meaning its not beneficial.

The Blizz needs to stop it.

If a players jumps layers X amount of times with in Y time frame, they are locked to that layer for Z period of time.

Wrong. If health server population was the only issue then they could easily state that mandatory server merges would take place in the event a server drops below a certain amount.

This guys gets it. Would rather one megaserver with 4 layers, where there won’t be duplicate names. In 1 month or so, when all of the layers are merged, everyone has their name and people remember it.

With no layers, you would’ve had 4 individual servers merging into one, and lots of people having forced (and free) renames. That means people you know won’t have the same name. That means the ninja-looter that’s blacklisted by everyone gets a new pass.

That is basically the same thing as layers except you know nothing about this other server.
At least with layers you are connected to these players already.

I see you like to quote what is suitable for you and leave out the rest.
Well no problem I shall quote myself.

Ain’t happening man. I am sorry but this would negatively effect gameplay too often unintentionally for it to be considered. Even then, you are putting a band-aid on this that doesn’t fix the problem. A simple 2-3 jumps is sufficient and the time frame needed is not small. It takes several minutes to do a lap around Un’goro for rich thorium and kill Devilsaurs. What time frame could you possibly implement to have any meaningful impact on this? It isn’t reasonable man…

I’m not shaming you at all, that’s a ridiculous statement. I’m sorry if you misconstrued that, but that’s not my fault. You are making a big stink out of absolutely nothing though, like many people, simply because you don’t like it. That’s a fact.

I have a vested interest in playing the game, not sitting in queues for 3-4 hours daily because people like you would rather sit there in queue for hours and have the servers constantly crashing like that’s an acceptable solution (hint: it’s not)

Just like you can post your opinions I can too. Don’t try and make me a bad guy because your post is senseless.

I asked this in another thread, I’m going to ask it here as well.

Lineage 2, and runescape both released classic servers, and those servers became more popular than their modern ones.

Neither of those games is nearly as popular as WoW, let alone classic.

Why do so many people in this forum think that WoW classic will have the opposite result of two games that are considerably less popular? Why do you guys think WoW will have a massive dropoff, when those two games didn’t?

Name conflicts? That is more important that dramatically altering the economy, leveling, and rare item accessibility? Sounds like a retail player to me. You are more concerned about names/appearance than gameplay.

Even ignoring all the (very excellent) reasons why this (rebranded sharding) is an atrociously bad idea there is a very simple reason. If you want sharding, play current WoW. There is obviously something very wrong with the current game because it currently has a fraction of the population it did at its peak. If you like it, go ahead. But you are in the minority, and if you don’t want to play a MULTIPLAYER game, then you should not be playing an MMO.
