Is it worth farming older/lower level content in War Within?

I’m a bit bored with WW right now, and want to go back and play around in some of the older zones/expansions (BfA and earlier) and was wondering if it was worth it to farm to make some extra gold. A while back, maybe 6 months or so, I found that Hexweave bags were selling pretty well, and I made 10’s of thousands of gold, but now they don’t sell anymore.

I’m just curious if lower-level content is worth farming or crafting in retail wow, or what other peoples’ experiences with this might be? Does anybody even level up by playing the game these days to make it worth it, or does everybody just level boost?

I don’t really play alts anymore so what I do at times is go play old content to complete quests and storyline to catch my paladin up with WoW history per se.

I have a dream of unlocking loremaster one day lol.

aside from collecting transmogs, achievements for exploring every zone in every continent/area, loremaster, meta achievements, you could always just go and try to experience the stories of those zones

Nice! I do similar from time to time, or I just run old dungeons and raids for the hell of it, working on various achievements here and there. I sell whatever I can to make a few hundred gold here and there, but other than farming newer content (ie, Dragonflight & WW), I haven’t been able to find a really stable way of making gold that doesn’t require hours and hours of farming. WW really killed profession crafting.

It’s always worth running an old raid. Unless you have collected every transmog.

And thankfully 11.1 is literally around the corner, so you won’t be too bored for too long.

No :joy: Not even close, lol I don’t really do a lot of transmog though so that would explain it. Just never got into it I guess. But I enjoy my tailoring, fishing and cooking, so I’m just trying to find a way to make gold in that way. Like creating Legion-era food, for instance. I’m wondering if there’s still a market for lower level crafted items.

In my experience there has been a fall off of AH interest in these types of older expac items. Either people are lvling too fast or the mogs aren’t worth what they were, or not doing the old profs as often that need the mats.

Certainly couldn’t be any harm in running an old raid for any reason really.

No the older food doesns’t sell, I’ve tried. The mats or recipes might sell. But even the recipes from classic vanilla have not been selling.

If you do some older expac crafting make sure you use the Relics of the Past item buffs to make the gear have more relevant stats. You can get them from a vendor or craft them yourself.

The best way to make money right now is run some delves for undercoin and buy the mat bags at 500 UC a piece. You will make some gold for sure.

Everyone just does TW and hopes for twinks they can string runs with. Not worth it to craft lower level gear. Questionably worth it to farm it but only because mogs are a thing.

Yes.

It is VERY worth it.

The problem is that it takes time, preparation and research. It can be overwhelming when there is 20 years of content, to know exactly what to zero in on, and expect great results.
Not all expansions are created equal. Just cause something is old, doesn’t inherently make it valuable. There is a lot of research you need to do to get the ball rolling at the start.

IMO, raw gold from running old content is pretty decent for people that have little to no expenses. You can easily make 20k - 30k just running and vendoring some raids.

If you expand on that and learn what BoE’s people are looking for, what mats are still valuable due to a bottleneck - ceiling craft for people leveling professions, etc. you can get some gold moving.
Keep in mind, almost every single market out there, especially old content, is already cornered by another player. Act accordingly when posting, depending on how aggressive your goals are.

Last thing: At the end of the day think how people behave. People are LAZY. That item that they could go and farm, they really won’t. They’ll always end up buying it from AH to complete a mog, if available.

IMO ores have been worth the most, but sometimes leather is good also. Did a 15 min sweep through Northrend to fill the TP task to mine 50 ore. Made just shy of 1k selling it, so not a great g/hour. Did the same while flying to SFK, made about the same. MoP ore is usually worth more but didn’t try it. YMMV if that’s worthwhile to you. Straight farming old raids has been nerfed into nothing, and the transmog market on my two servers is super slow. Doing the SL anima weekly and ZM weekly can make you 2-3k in 15 minutes so that’s another thing to do. :see_no_evil::speak_no_evil::hear_no_evil:

Mmm Crispy Bacon!
if only it worked with all foods/drinks.
