Is it weird that the Draenei made sure every race knew their name for the planet

Dread’s insane proposition that they understand eachother.
So insane that there’s a video officially released on the official world of warcraft channel wherein they do.

lmao, zerde, if i was your dad i would wonder where i went wrong.

Find me where I said they didn’t have means of communication/didn’t undertstand each other. All I said is the ORCS are the ones who didn’t understand the ogre language, that doesn’t mean ogres didn’t know about the orcs language.

Since you know, words are hard for you. Here’s video evidence instead

Ask and ye shall receive.

Which are both about ORCS learning about the OGRE language, not the inverse. The ogres would have a vested interest in learning orcish while preventing the orcs from learning their language.

To paraphase a twitter meme:

Dread the only person who misinteprets well articulated sentences. You can say ‘I like pancakes’ and somebody will say ‘So you hate waffles?’ No . Dats a whole new sentence. What the heck are you talkin about.

Me and Dread both posted the Warlords video of Orcs and Ogres speaking and UNDERSTANDING one another and Zerde still insists the orcs didn’t pick up anything at all

Which doesn’t mention if it was in ogre or orcish. Which doesn’t prove anything. That the orcs as a whole could still be ignorant of the ogre language as a whole or at least the ogre word for world.

Why would a race(The ogres) who looks down on everyone else speak what they would have deemed a lesser language?

Why would the orcs not know the ogre language when they’re the direct evolutionary child of ogres, came from ogres, and were in the ogre empire for years before finally breaking free?

ogres need to communicate with their slaves.
their slaves need a language to communicate at all.

What evolutionary advantage is there to just putting their hand up to ogres, saying no, and making up their own language whole cloth and cut off? Do you not realize how hard that would be??

Basically Zerde didn’t think about this at all, to the surprise of no one.

Because they still need to tell what their slaves should do.

You are talking hundreds of years, people can barely understand middle english nowadays!

hundreds of years being cut off with someone does that to languages. That their words change and form its own unique language totally unintelligable with the ogres.

Zerde ignores that the orcs were slaves to the Ogres, and would have picked up the bits of the ogre language just from hearing it everyday

Bits and pieces, not necessarily the word for the planet especially considering I doubt the ogres were planning on have some deep philosophical talk about the nature of their world.

The English don’t speak middle English nowadays.
But Americans and England still speak English hundreds of years later.

And that besides,

English is a horrible example, because English got flummoxed and irrevocably changed by the French.

To utterly decimate your point, Italians and Spanish are two derivative languages that, to this day, can be mutually understood betwixt eachother.

English doesn’t get this bonus with its relatives because of the French’s involvement.

Educate yourself. Make your real father proud for once.

They weren’t cut off.
Ogres never stopped trying to enslave them.
The Warsong never stopped raiding them.

And in the main universe the ogres weren’t permantely put to end until the Orcish Horde formed and the orcs massacred the rest of the native races when they were on the march to take control of Draenor for themselves.

And other languages are not mutually understandable. Even with the close connection. Heck, Spanish and French are not intelligible even though they both derived from Latin.

Thanks for the advise ad hominem Dread, but my family is pretty proud so yeah. I wonder if yours are about you?

And yet that is years for their relatively disparate races to end up having their language greatly evolve in different ways. I doubt those captured by ogres were ever able to return to the warsong to tell them the ogre language was evolving.

That is the point, the ogre language and orc language evolved. And with the orcs being a people that favor oral traditions until recently, even if they knew the ogre word for world, they could have forgotten it after almost 800 years of not directly dealing with the ogres.

Dawgar means “Known Earth”, but orcs are never once in the lore referenced as referring to Draenor as such. They simply called it world before they met the draenei, heard them call it Draenor and the name took off amongst them.

You can theorise that they’d call it Dawgar, having adapted the ogre name for the planet, but it’s simply not stated in the lore.

Evidence of what? That they can talk but not proof they are talking in ogre.

Again you said the orcs use the orge word for the name of the planet, where exactly is your proof of it?

Well according to the Romans. Earth goes by many names and is perceived as a lot of things. Including as a big cosmic space turtle and isn’t that delightful.

But dirt’s a pretty good name. There’s certainly a lot of it. Water would probably be more accurate but the fish can have their say when they learn persistence hunting and projectile weapon use, the lazy gill breathers.

On a semi related note I learned today the French word for potato is pomme de terre. And I know just enough Latin to know that means dirt apple. Which infuriates me because it’s dumb but honestly I probably couldn’t think of anything more accurate if pressed.

I mean Terre is the french word for earth. I wouldnt say it directly translates to “dirt apple” so much as “earth apple” could work as well.
