Is it true that a priest can

Can a priest at level 60 with a 5-man healing spec still farm mobs solo decently? Or is it going to be painfully slow and inefficient? Obviously switching spec to Shadow for solo mob farming sessions and back to Healing for 5-man dungeon farming is going to be prohibitively expensive.

I just want to know what I’m getting myself into by committing to a Healer priest at 60.

34/17/0 per Frostadamus in DME in 50’s. Heavy disc. Says it is easy class to farm there.

Thank you for sharing! I’ll check the video out. I imagine the spec used will be applicable to other farming.

There are other guides in Maraudon and DME as Shadow. Nothing Holy main I’ve seen though. But Priest can farm. Its just not Hunter or mage (latter dies easily if you make mistakes). Priest is very solid farmer after Hunter and Lock or a Mage in capable hands.

One of my mains back in “Vanilla” was a Spriest. I pvp’d with him and didn’t raid so farming was easy for me as shadow but I remember Disc being more potent to be honest. I just liked the style. One of my other mains that I ended up playing up through Legion was a Affliction Lock so I loved that dark dotting and rotting. I came from EQ where a cleric just sucked for soloing and I raided as one there. Here the priest is a beast. Enjoy!

I’ll be doing a Warlock first, then a Priest. The Warlock because I love playing that class… but also because I can make tons of gold farming on a 'lock. The Priest will be second, and the reason for that is that I need to build up cash so when I get to the priest I can keep him outfitted and wanded from level 6 forwards. Keeping the priest geared as I level him up helps a lot. So warlock first, priest second.

Now, in terms of farming on a priest. I won’t be doing it. That said, I don’t think it would be hard. I messed around with the priest during the recent stress test and once I got 5 points into Spirit Tap it was smooth running. So with that provisio, I think if you are going to only run one toon and you want it to be a priest… yah, you can farm with him. Just make sure you have 5 points in Spirit Tap for both farming and leveling purposes, and you won’t run out of mana while you chain mobs.

But I am going to throw in a provisio… you really want to gear your priest well in order to have a fun leveling experience with him (or her), which is why I recommend leveling another class first. If you are just doing the priest, then it might be a bit more difficult.

If you pick up spirit tap in the shadow tree, you’ll be able to keep mana going pretty decently when farming. There are talents in the holy tree you can easily pick up to increase your damage that will make it even easier. Priests are in an OK spot when farming. They’re not going to be as efficient as other classes but they can still do it.

I had a undead priest , heavy into shadow with a lot of disc.

I could heal five mans, and farm ok.

If I paid attention I didn’t die and got my farming done.

Can’t remember exact set up, but I was on a pvp realm so a lot was about staying alive while farming and hording my heavy hitting stuff for that one pvp fellow who just felt like playing a lot at killing me.

did get some significant fun MC and jumping them into bad places / off cliffs, player stuck etc.

Post 30 not really… you can solo but it’s not very efficient. The higher you get, the more of a chore it becomes.

U can lvl effectively with any priest spec. Switching some talents around will speed things up a bit. Just dive in. If that’s the class you wanna play, do it. I’m sure if ur invested in it enough, you will have no problem finding a good lvling spec that can also heal dungeons whilst questing.

But my question was about at level 60. I already know what I want to do while leveling to 60.

My understanding is that the gear makes all the difference. A lot of 60 gear for healers has plus healing so you’ll want to swap that gear out when you farm.

I think you should level up a hunter too. You’ll have a much more enjoyable time farming with it, and they level very quickly.

Leveled this priest from 1-60 in a holy spec and continued into pve and pvp as holy reaching rank 10 pvp. The trick while leveling and farming is to have the best wand you can get. With the wand and a few judicious spells, especially Power Word: Shield, I was able to kill mobs non-stop.

At 60, which OP is asking about, the best wands don’t keep up that well with spells so you’d only really use them if you’re wanting to save mana.

Stolen from Huzzah’s guide and slightly cleaned.

Holy or Shadow?

Shadow.
Ok really, for a pre-50 priest there is no excuse not to be at least like ~21 shadow. Your first 5 points should be Spirit Tap, for any priest ever created, ever. The next 2 should be Improved Power Word: Pain, then do whatever you feel like. You do not need the 10% more efficient heals for pre-50 instances, you just need to collect 5 bear butts faster. For basically nothing you can then respec to whatever post-50. Then discipline talents for mana and holy talents for efficiency then can really pay off. But until then its not a post-worthy discussion. If you want to be Sir Healsalot, youre better off going mostly shadow so you more quickly get to a level where people give a crap about your heal efficiency. Post-50 respec into whatever your heart desires, just make doubly certain you dont post inane crap about it.

All classes can farm to some degree, but in a relative comparison between classes Priests are near the bottom in terms of mass mob farming. The priest’s strengths are in being able to get into dungeon groups and (if you are good), being able to carry bad groups. Fewer wipes, faster runs, no waiting around… if you are good.

Getting to 60, healers have trouble gearing. Once a healer gets to 60, however, they can gear-up far more quickly than a DPS via dungeon runs (tanks as well). For making gold… with a priest, I’d stick with professions and auction house action.

The world farming gods are: Warlocks and Hunters (continuous multi/many-mob farming just generally, plus can solo dungeons), and then situationally Mages, Warriors, and Pallies (AOE farming of mele mobs). Mid tier farming goes to Druids and Shammies. Rogues and Priests are at the bottom of the list.

It isn’t hard, it’s just mucheasier with a lot of other classes.

You can farm DME with holy nova. That’s phase 2.

Otherwise not well. Not a great class for farming at 60.

What’s that?

With gear holy nova becomes a pretty easy way to farm. Now you wont be doing lvl40+ instances but its more than enough to farm the earlier dungeons for gold and cloth.
