agreed. Use a spec already in game…especially one that gets so much hate anyway. Make it usable. Instead of making yet another spec that wont get any attention when it needs it.

IF they were to make a hunter tank, this would be exactly the way to go. I have a survival hunter that I kind of have fun playing, but I feel like he’s a bit redundant. Making him a tank would be different.

Survival could be pretty interesting if it was rebuilt into a tank spec. I think it would be more interesting if the hunter was the focus and the pet brought some support and utility rather than pet tanking.

it would be challenging but not impossible.
I keep Move To keybound anyway to get what Im fighting looking away from me if its got any attacks that’ll singe my hair if its breathing in my direction, lol.
My concern is that hunter pet AI is mentally deranged as it is, lol. Unless they get it working right, yeah…not fun.
Maybe SV could be a petless tank, like a Fury warrior but tougher.
or maybe the pet is just there for damage and the hunter is what gets/holds aggro.

Yeah by pet tank I kinda meant moreso that the pet would somehow work in tandem or as an accessory to the Hunter not that the Pet was the actual tank (although I do think that combo would be very interesting, just would be a huge untertaking to make something like that work with how jank pet AI and aggro can already be)

vanilla had the ability for that. if you haven’t already, go back and look at vanilla/classic talent trees. enhanchment had several tanking talents.
with enough time, gold and buddies, you could have tanked almost anything. WotLK officially killed it with the removal of those abilities (extra shield absorb, extra dodge).
they were a threat tank, sort of like fury prot, except with the limit of reaching uncrushable, iirc
think about this. Hunter as a tank spec the hunter rides his pet as a tank spec

I have been suggesting for years that “pure” classes should all be made hybrids.
Hunter and rogue get a tank spec
Mage/warlock get a healer spec
Sure - as long as that pet is a Druid in bear form and controlled by another playe… wait.
This would be realy cool, but it would be way too hard to implement unless Blizz does a full rework of the spec as a new expansion feature akin to a hero class. There are a lot of Hunter Pets that would look very bizarre to ride so Blizz would have to either restrict Surv Tank to only being able to tame a much smaller variety of pets, or have some unique non-taming method of getting a specific pool of mounts for different occasions (like pre-set stances or the form changes for Druid). Maybe let Survival have a normal pet that just functions as a companion for utility and some minor damage/threat generation, but also have the staces for the mounts?)
All in all, this would be insanely cool and would prob be the best way to convert a lot of people over to Survival I would think since it would be the first true “mounted in combat/cavalier type” since Divine Steed on pallies def doesn’t count lol

No, we don’t need more tanks. Having 20 tanks makes it WORSE, not better. Pets would end up as support and that’s bad. pets are DPS, not support.
This would be the way to do it, imo.
I have tanked as a hunter when the tank died. In that scenario, your pet holds the aggro and you do your usual DPS. If you survive until the fight is over, the tank gets a rez and you take growl off before moving on.
