It’s less to do with characters being black or VAs being trans, and more that companies are pushing these things to score social brownie points with certain groups of people - often at the expense of the product’s quality; especially at the expense of immersion.
I mean seriously, we have black characters since the 90s. Barret Wallace was black - and was even disabled with a gun for a hand - no one said s***. Why? Because Squaresoft wasn’t pushing anything or trying to score points with anyone.* The character just so happened to be black and the loss of his arm (and replacement with a gun) is actually an important part of the character’s motive.
* OK maybe with the environmentalists a bit. But one could argue that it can be interpreted more as a genuine expression of its main creator rather than a cynical attempt to get social clout.
And people like you default to blaming influencers.
People repost their stuff here because … get this … they agree with them. Their content spoke to their viewers and articulated what they couldn’t.
