I think it’s fine for delves, WQs, mythic plus, and dragonriding to have levels of difficulty
Am I good at any of them? Nope. I’m probably in the top 25% of the world for efficient Dragonracing because I do not have any nausea or issues with flight. It’s fun. The challenges are exciting. The paths and twists and turns are interesting.
Likewise, I’m in the bottom percent for the worst at mythic plus because all of them are insanely difficult, requiring massive amounts of time I’m not willing nor wanting to invest in, the dungeons are all ugly unlike Legion and BFA.
But no one talks about dragon races unlike mythic plus because there are no rewards with dragons. The difficulty there is partly due to player created attitudes and expectations being both grouped content and heavily tracked for efficiency.
As for WQs and delves, much like dragonflying (they are higher on my fun factor) because it’s solo-able content and a longer more involved WQ is just as fun as a flying though the mosquitoes or machinegun fireworks in Undermine. But, apart from delves, the rewards are “welfare gear” and not worth the time nor respect from the armies of eSport enthusiasts that run this game.
You can be sure any bugs get ironed out in a mythic plus, but me trying to climb a wall to save kittens in Dragonflight will go unfixed for 3 months. Subtle things like this can artificially make it difficult because you think it’s doable when it’s actually broken. But then again its the company telling us that the meaningful, worthwhile, “balanced” content exists in raids and dungeons.
The balance there is put on my shoulder to get good or get out. Follow the paths. Know the skips. Know the routes. Pick the right covenant. Not play my F tier class, but have 20 alts to be meta at all times. Pick the correct hero talent. And by all means gogogogo as fast as possible, anything less than FTL is a big L.
I love dungeons, in classic. The difficulty is measured by cooperating effectively. Communicating effortlessly. Something lost in Retail where if I say anything at all, it’s like I’ve insulted you.
The TLDR:
Not all dungeons are the same length. Not all delves. WQs can taken either 5 seconds or 5 minutes. And it’s okay. However, IF it’s grouped content, the time taken can be shortened by other players. And if the reward, (in my case is usually solo fun not treadmill gogogo gear) is worth the 5%, 50%, 200% extra time, then it’s balanced or at least I balance it out as either 5 second fun experience or 5 minute fun experience and both having their merit.
Otherwise, if everything were measured exactly the same, then the vast majority wouldn’t do it out of boredom, ubiquity, or atrophy of engagement.
