Is fire mage just bad this season?

I have studied several guides and watched preheat’s video but my DPS is bad. My single target in raid is OK but I’m following all AOE talent builds for M+ and my DPS is significantly lower than everyone else. Is flamestrike undertuned or is living bomb build still viable? For context I have played fire mage since Legion but I am more of a casual now.

Arcane is obviously crushing it right now, but Frostfire/SKB Fire is really fun to play and fairly decent. You basically just go full ST/ignite and never use Flamestrike/Living Bomb. Meteor (well, Comet Storm really) does a chunk of damage, and with Firefall you’re getting a ton of them out. (Personally) recommend taking Ice Floes over Shimmer for ease of movement with the hardcasted Pyro. Granted, Sunfury is better for raid/pure ST scenarios, but I find Frostfire way better/easier for anything with adds. Timings tend to work out so you can Meteor during every combust/SKB. Def grab a weakaura to track your SKB stacks though.

Arcane is just straight up better than fire in M+, but fire pulls ahead of arcane on a few fights in the raid.

One thing worth noting is that in the 2-12 range fire is probably fine (i.e. where like 90% of the m+ playerbase stops). Still moderately worse than arcane, but much more mobile and less “key too low” issues if you use the Sun King’s Blessing/Frostfire build.

I know a lot of people are not particularly fond of SKB, especially after playing it for literally the entire expansion in Dragonflight, but I have to say it’s pretty fun and mistakes are much more forgiving. I regularly find myself outdamaging more “meta” classes just because SKB is really easy to play and is very comfortable in situations that Sunfury firemage really struggles in (e.g. your tank pulling like an idiot).

Fire is highly gear dependent. You won’t do good damage without really good gear. Roll Arcane and collect loot for Fire. Just Blizzard things really.

Sadly true. The only thing ever holding me back from playing Fire at the start of a season. Then half way through I may as well just stay Frost.

what is giving Arcane its damage? on paper it would seem like fire would hit harder.

multiple Arcane barrage multipliers, little bit of luck and lots of bonus damage phases this season.

Very very true. I play SKB and I have to be very strategic about getting my gear so my stats are balanced correctly. Until that happens it just sucks on dps. But I love it over arcane and play it all the time for pve. I find frost best for pvp.

Fire relies to much on CDs and RNG.
