So i’ve looked at guides in both wowhead and icyveins and both of them say to spec into dragon tempered blades in terms of m+ and delves. My issue is that they also say not to spec in improved poisons which overall drops the the application chance to 21%
Isn’t this a DPS loss since you kinda have to rely on poison applications for maximizing damage?
FYI this not my main, but i wanna work on my rogue. So sorry if my question sound really noobish.
Trust the guides. Keep in mind, the guides are about maximizing dps. However, have some fun and experiment with different builds.
I don’t always do exactly what they recommend. I will switch a few talents to fit my play style.

21% Chance with how often you attack is virtually 100% uptime no?
I couldn’t imagine it being a big loss to not take the extra 5%. Worst case is maybe they’re not applied for an additional GCD?
PS Icy Veins is saying not to take DTB for Delves. It seems to favor execute and bleed talent nodes instead.

So it’s critical to remember that Envenom, a finisher that you must use basically as often as possible increases your poison application chance by 30% for the duration of the buff. This buff should last 8 secs if you have spec’d into Twist the Knife and you most certainly should.
Furthermore the “5%” increase application rate from the talent is multiplicative NOT additive. Meaning it’s bad and misleading. That’s why taking the talent increases your 21% base application chance to 24%. This minor increase is not worth the cost of a talent point when you are getting a 30% (unfortunately still multiplicative) buff from Envenom which while active boost your application rate to 42%.
Basically you can get more damage from putting that point elsewhere. If it was a flat additive rate it might be worth a point but in it’s current state it’s not. Especially given the existence of Shiv increasing your change to apply Crippling to 100% so it’s not even worth taking for the increase chance to apply non-lethals.
