Im not claiming to be the best disc pri. But i picked ut up at the end of legion because i hit 2400 on mw monk and after that it felt like mw just didnt have that great of a toolkit. Friends told me to try disc because the times where i could be on the offensive as a monk were really fun. Anywho… last season of legion on the disc was a good learning experience i started to get the hang of when to use grip offensively and defensivley, landing a clutch mind control felt so rewarding especially when you could use the enemy player to melee his/her teammate to keep from drinking/stealthing or even get a killing blow! Needless to say disc became my favorite healer. Bfa hit and it was easy to level. I was doing some random bgs one day and got random grouped with this nice fella and he asked me to join his guild for raids i told him that i havent raided seriously since wrath of the lich king and i used to only play warlock and rogue in those days and was unsure of my abilities as a raid healer. Turns out disc is really fun to heal in raids and quicly became my guilds go to healer but then i realized that although healing raids was fun and always having a spot felt good. I remembered that progression was what felt like another full time job and was always expected to be here or there at certain times and people would get really upset that i wanted to do arena pushes over raiding. Over the last couple months my favorite class has been gutted pvp wise.
Forced to run double dispel every game because it feels impossible to stay alive when they can just dr stun you with triple maledicts to force every defensive cooldown on thier first go and if you manage to get peels you just run oom if you survive the second go. By the third minute of the match you are struggling to out run dps to get drinks because you are completely oom. So yea disc feels super gimped in arena. Feelsbad. Fav class is dead in arenas and raiding just isnt fun anymore for me personally. Arena has always been my favorite and the only reason i log in and keep my sub going. Feelsbadman.
I am dusting off my priest. This used to be my main. I was mostly holy but decided to try disc. I find it amazing. Actually I can solo quest and I feel like a mage doing damage and self healing. So far I have had no trouble at my level doing dungeons. I find it entertaining. I tried holy and it was hard to figure out but again I am just coming back to this priest.
So far I love disc… but again with limited experience.
My 2 c.
No one here is having difficulties in world content or dungeons, disc is still okay there. Disc is not good in arenas. Get to 120 and do some arenas.
disc is dead pvp-wise
not sure about raids though
But thats the best part about disc! You work harder and it doesn’t show! And when we get a buff and top the charts people cry and we get put back in our place!
But seriously, I don’t feel it too much. It’s a spec that has a skill requirement since we have to heal and dot. I did a bg last night and topped the healing meters beating both horde and ally druids. I’ve been playing disc since day one and the play style is always been like that.
I Dont pvp so can’t really say anything about it.I do raid and m+. The highest key I’ve done is 15 atal. Raiding is ok, my hps and overhealing is fine compare to other healer in my guild. Mythic plus hasn’t being that enjoyable. If the tank is bad or the week is fortified, be ready to spam sm on tank(I thought sm is just another source of antonement) for 30 to 40min straight and hope the tank dont died. Is disc dead? Nope. There are still good disciplne priest doing m20+. It simply means that this spec is not meant for casual like us atm.
it is pvp ded
To not scare away OP, this situation is something that can be avoided (outside of grievous weeks. Even top tier Disc Priests just sit that week out or go Holy).
Very rarely is there life threatening AoE damage in a dungeon. A massive hit to everyone? Sure, but you still have time to get people topped off.
sadly it’s a grievous week…
Even top tier Disc Priests just sit that week out or go Holy
No we don’t. disc is fine.
Disc is a mana hog in all fights. PVE or PVP I’m usually OOM after the first flag battle in PVP.
Anyone else miss Cata, Wrath and/or Mists Disc? I really miss being able to quickly/constantly swap between proactive shields+extra damage or reactive burst+reliable mana regen… Like the toolkits were similar enough but the mastery/shields or cooldowns were what changed you from proactive or reactive. Holy was the go to for learning the dungeon the first time and then once you know mechanics youre easily pre-shielding people and like no dmg is going out. Hymn was godly in 5 mans for holy too, no one could die during it’s casting and I SOOOO miss my lightwell, even if I was the only one using it. ( could be used while stunned for a good HoT, so underrated… )
I used to swap like 3+ times most dungeons back in wrath/cata before the disc changes made things weird and m+ rules restricting this kind of freedom…traits/etc makes gearing very annoying. It was also nice being able to swap back and forth for raid compositions and whatever was missing or if we picked up a second pug priest.
I mean I dont have any issues with anyone who likes the spec now. Im just wondering if there are others who miss being able to swap and enjoy both specs whenever without the roadblocks like there are now.
I’m starting to think that too after the runs I did last night.
You don’t get trained in PvE, Disc is fine there. PvP is the problem.
Yeah, grievous and also bursting are though affixes for any healer, I haven’t found Disc to be particularly bad at handling those, it’s more or less the same as the other healers.
One important point is that your group needs to know that it’s their job to sit down and eat when out of combat to remove their stacks, if they just stand there waiting for you to do it for them then that’s going to be a very slow run.
I usually carry a few fish feasts to help speed-up the run too (it makes quick work of any stacks).
I don’t see major roadblocks to switching, at least casually. Unless you’re running cutting edge content where every little percentage matters, it’s not a big deal to heal with wrong traits (and a lot of the best traits are shared anyway). You can’t switch in the middle of a mythic+ dungeon, but mythic+ didn’t even EXIST in those previous expansions.
And I would hate the return of spammy shields, though I do miss things like Archangel.
You use the term “we” but your profile is hidden, so I can’t even see your experience
Obviously my comment was hyperbole, there are always outliers. That being said, Disc has a harder time topping off the group should the stacks of grievous get too high.
you can always check io
It feels like pvp disc needs some of the dr from focused will given back, since the nerf appears to be too severe if you can tell anything by representation.
For m+, it seems like some single target healing (maybe buffing shadowmend since that wouldn’t impact raid performance) would be welcome, although depth of the shadows does help out a lot in that area already.
Nice backpedaling. Also Amanda’s got way more experience than 99.9% of this forum.
