You’re playing a diffferent game than the rest of us then .
High DPS certainly affects key time, but there are tons of other variables … like your route that you were using.
If you had 4 minutes left on a 20 key with everyone above 20k DPS this late in the patch, I can assure you your route was very bad. You should have had much more time left on the timer if that was the case.
You can time these keys with everyone doing 15-17k dps and still have 3-4 mins left lmao
unless their is a timer. not gonna argue. i run around 30 m+ a week. i was in bm and i do 17-18k overall as bm. the couple of 20’s that were fails the other 2 dps was around 12-14k. 0 deaths. steady pace.
i dont say things to say them. i say things based off what i see in game. you are not timing with that low overall. there is a thing called a “timer” if you are not pulling enough dps you will not beat that timer. peroid.
i been in 20s with all 3 dps doing 20k+ and no deaths and that timer barely gets pushed. so GL if your in there doing 12-14k dps and thinking you are going to beat the timer. not happening. not enough powa.
u probably can as long as the tank is over 10k and the healer is dpsing as well. but thats not the original argument. dude above was talking about 12-14k dps. i can see that. the numbers are there. a route can only do so much. there is also a thing called a progress bar in case you were unaware.
or in your case if you are running with a s tier lock and s tier rogue lol. dont get this twisted. the basis of not being able to complete a +20 on a bm hunter is based off the fact that the other dps is pulling 12-14k as well.

Its not even close to viable.
In keys, not really. No reason to run it over MM and especially survival. Pet pathing is a pain, multitarget damage isn’t competitive and ST isn’t meaningfully better than MM/Surv in keys. In mid 20s range even MM begins to fall off in favor of survival.
In raid, it depends on fight. In heroic raid, for example, BM is viable for Guardian, Dausegne, Skolex, Halondrus, Rygelon, Jailer. In mythic, the same except for Guardian. Any hunter that raids should ideally be able to run 2 or all of the specs and swap accordingly.
Post on your main if youre going to make these claims.
What radical claims did I make? MM and surv will serve you better. Any spec can do relatively well in keys, BM is just the least powerful of the 3. I feel like this is borderline common knowledge. The buffs have been helpful, but it’s still behind. Few specs can touch survival to be fair.
Viability is a weird question. Should a BM walk into a 30? Probably not. But few people of any spec do. Can a BM do a 15, 20, 25? Sure. But it’s the worst of the 3 specs in keys. It’s beyond viable in raid, it’s the best spec for multiple fights.

Did a 21 streets as bm and was pure st spec and still finished 2nd dps.
It seems many Hunters dont understand how to DPS as BM.
BM Hunters Single Target DPS are very decent. I would destroy MM and Survival Hunters on pure Single Target DPS fights when I switch to BM.
However, BM Hunters AoE DPS are not as good as Survival or MM. All becoz of their lousy legendaries and lousy tier set bonus. BM Hunters AoE DPS are like okay like as any regular DPS class. But they are not of the level of the top AoE DPS Classes/specs like Survival, Warlocks and even MM Hunters.
If you want BM to top on Raids, pls bring a lot of Single Target DPS Boss fights. BM would be very decent.
If you want BM to top on AoE like on M+ that is full of AoE-fest fights, get them new legendary or tier set bonus that heavily buffs frenzy and beastcleaves. Not this current weak tier set bonus that asks you to do Kill Command (Single Target DPS ability) to do AoE. To me, Kill Command should have no business on BM’s AoE DPS rotation like what we did on Legion and BFA.
BM feels clunkier than MM in M+ imo. But I dont run high keys and Im not used to it aside from st raid bosses anymore. BM can probably do fine, MM feels better. If Rngesus would stop being stingy with weapons and I wasnt broke in the gold department Id try surv.

BM is the crutch spec and everyone knows it. Its the easiest spec with the absolute lowest skill required. So yeah, it does OK. But actual good PVErs wont pick you. BM is lazy and it shows.
no its an actual observation from being in runs with bm hunters. but like all things some groups can time it. but the average group with an average bm hunter is rare to time.
its math. if there isnt a certain amount of damage the run will not succeed. and bm hunters cannot do the damage especially aoe of the higher meta specs that blow through m+

im sorry but you take a bm hunter pulling 12-14k, a shadow priest pulling 10-14k, an affliction warlock pulling 10-14k and a tank pulling 5-6k. then my friend you are not timing a 20+ fortified. not happening.
you need to think about what i am saying before you call me out. a bm hunter pulling 2k dps will time a +20 in group with a geared skilled destro lock and sv hunter. yes. so yes you are right a bm is viable and can time a 25+ in that case. dude lol
and as for my quote i should of specified that i am talking about fortified. because thats all that matters when we are talking about bm and viable. a bm is good single target for sure. but when you going in on a sv hunter, destro lock,hell even mm hunter they are breaking over 200k aoe burst when geared and skilled with 30-40k overall and where is bm? like 60-80k max with wild spirits and 14-18k overall.
