I had my disagreements with him (Ghostcrawler) as much as the next player, but it amazed me how people blamed him for absolutely everything, even when much of it wasn’t his responsibility.
I miss having strong characters like him on the dev team.
What I’m doing is saying that Activision-Blizzard employs fewer people whose job it is to ensure quality than they used to. The term used to describe the nature of the reduction is irrelevant to that fact. Either they are still there or they aren’t. Which is it?
Yeah i did like his interaction with the playerbase more, but i think they both do/did an amazing job. It’s a thankless position considering the internet trend is to always hate on things.
Blizzard is declining. No New IP since 2016. Little support for Consoles or Mobile, where the majority of the money is these days. All of their games are currently in maintenance mode with slower development.
They need something new. Not a new Diablo, Overwatch or WOW Expansion. Something completely new. Even if it was a purchased property from some aqui-hire. I am not sure they have it in them anymore.
GC did seem a bit more courageous when it came to interaction giving honest answers even if the community didn’t want to hear it. I feel Ion does a bit too much issue dodging when he knows it will be controversial.
Those are probably threads asking for true mechagnomes. I know myself and many others had asked for a robot race based on Mimiron. Instead, we’re getting cyborgs.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I have a Gnome Hunter at max level and am not going to level a new Gnome for robot legs.
Nah, that’s a bunch of hogwash if I’ve ever heard of it. I can tell they had really good intentions with Battle for Azeroth. They took some risks and tried some new content like Island Expeditions and Warfronts. People mainly whined about it all the time.
I didn’t feel like anything was limited time bait to get me to play. Same stuff to do as in Legion. World quests, emissary dailies, mythic keystones, heroic dungeons, raids, same stuff as every expansion in history.
Of course people meant Mimiron-type mechagnomes, because Garbage Pail Gnomes didn’t exist until BfA.
Mechagnome was understood to mean “gnomes like the ones in Ulduar” because those were the only kind of mechagnome in WoW.
Although I’m sure the pending lack of interest in Trashpile Gnomes will be used by WoW’s developers to convince themselves that their customers just can’t be pleased even when you give them exactly what they’ve been wishing for.
Blizzard is the twisted genie that takes your wish and turns it into a nightmare. They have been for many years now. Always be careful in what you wish for.
They are a real life manifestation of the monkey paw. People wish for no more titanforging, for example. Blizzard grants their wish and gives them corruptionforging, which can actually kill your character.
The gaming world has changed with the advent of console MMO and Open Sandbox gaming, and Blizzard has been trying to react to that change. But it’s hard to make changes to the core game, and not alienate the existing players. So you get a game that can be played in a more Fortnite-like fashion, or something where you have a lot of choices for what to do, like a Skyrim or somesuch.
Blizzard isn’t reacting so much to what the players are asking for, they’re reacting to why existing players are leaving. It’s a very fine line, and it’s no wonder that here on the forums (and on reddit), you see negative reactions.
But, you know what? 15 years later, and still WoW is the big kid on the block, that other MMORPGs are trying to aspire to.
Anyone who’s ever done lfg or Lfr will know, 3/5 to 4/5 players standing in fire go together like peanut and butter. God forbid everyone now is able to light themselves and fire and gear that can KILL you while doing world of chorecraft.
Yeaaaah find me one of those threads where the majority of the responses weren’t “oh god please no don’t add these disgusting things.” I’m not going to wait because they don’t exist. Even before we saw 8.2 and the existence of junker gnomes was just a fringe idea based on that one area in Tirisgarde, the prevailing reaction was a resounding meh.
I saw multiple threads after 8.2 actually begging Blizzard on bended knee to come up with something besides trashgnomes that Alliance players actually wanted to play. Obviously that didn’t work out.
