Is Blizzard intentionally inflating token prices?

For me personally, it’s mostly about me thinking that Blizzard doesn’t deserve my money, i don’t care if i convert some of my gold into balance and that real money goes from someone else’s pocket and into Blizzards… so long as it isn’t my real money lol

It sounds petty i know, but outside of a couple of 6 month sub deals i did to get a mount or w/e, all of my subscriptions, mounts, pets and gifts that i give friends has been me slowly chipping away at my gold stores.

Same reason I don’t bust out my card whenever there’s something ingame I want.

Working towards something is fun. Looking at it through the lens of “I can spend X hours at work vs Y hours ingame to get this” feels soulless and I care far less about it as a result.

Not to mention to a lot of people, real life money is significantly more valuable than gold. Like my only practical use for gold at this point is gambling in raids and buying tokens, and I’ve given up on raiding this tier, so that just leaves tokens.

Whereas I can use RL money for lots of things.

Yes, I get this. But before I work my butt off and don’t do what I actually want to play in the game, I rather quit the game at all. I simply can’t see myself grind +10 hours on a weekend so I just have a free month. I’m also not a service provider. I rather pay a 6-month sub and have the benefits from it before I need to force myself to do things which aren’t fun to me.

Did someone say… Murloc conspiracy?!

Exactly, i look at $15 and see my Netflix sub, gold has no real value to me outside of getting things in game and i have just about everything i could every want when it comes to gold sink type stuff.

Of course they do, it’s always been this way. Only clueless or naïve people think it was organic or tried to apply the same economic rules as the real world.

Blizz is the only 1 that can generate and adjust the price of this token at any time.

It’s in the best interest of corporate profits to make the token desirable/attractive.

I earn gold through things I enjoy doing in the game. I like doing the math and figuring out the best things to sell on the AH, or just being lazy and doing some carries with friends to earn gold, or getting lucky and winning a couple months worth of tokens from a night of gambling.

I’m not sitting here slaving away doing 20 hours of herbalism to pay for a months gametime or whatever. If I didn’t enjoy earning gold in WoW, I’d just pay for my sub. And some months, I don’t feel particularly motivated to do anything but raidlog, so I do exactly that.

But the beauty of paying for your sub through tokens is that it’s really easy to justify on whether you wanna pay for that next month or so. As it stands, I’ve got two months left in the tank since I’m only playing classic with my brother and a couple of IRL friends atm.

Wait, you think the real-life market is organic too?

So many people not understanding basic economics here.

I mean…I make enough gold for tokens passively, while work is something I have to focus on, so that’s a big difference.

As for the topic, no. Less tokens are being bought, so the price is higher. That’s it.

Oh gawd, do people still not get how the tokens work? Its obvious many of you have never checked out a stock exchange.

Its called “supply and demand”.

tbh for South America, subscripe 6 months it’s litally 1/4 of your salary, each month fee it’s like 4%, tbh when I was focused on CE, was avoiding Buy Tokens with gold, only on Stone Legion wasted 400 Augment runes, tons of prepots etc, my highest amount of remaining gold every week was atleast 20k for repair. but after that, I’m lazy farming gold when not pushing m+, can easily buy token and have some coins on my pocket

and tbh, after working all day, with your boss screaming on you, no one wants to sit on chair and start their 2nd job. Just see what’s worth with your style

There are a lot of players that live on fixed incomes like Disabled Folks and Disabled Veterans like me …dropping a chuck of change like $77 can be a bit rough for our budgets…why I use to pay monthly…till tokens came out then I payed by tokens till they got to high to justify using gold to pay my sub…now I have my SS along with my VA so its easier now for me but other player not so much if on a fixed income.

Call of Duty Vanguard, and a new store mount.
Heaven forbid people spend gold on tokens for Blizz balance to play other games.

Be glad you don’t play in China, they’re over 600k :astonished:

Exactly. If the token price was truly set by market demand, there would have been atleast one time in the tokens history where demand would have dropped the price down to something stupid like 5 bucks a token.

It has fluctuated in price but its always been in a very distinct range. as it would be if it was being manipulated.

Fewer players = fewer tokens being sold = higher price per token.

And, honestly, who would still be buying boosts in 4-month old content? That likely was their biggest avenue of token sales, people selling them to get the gold for the boost runs. I can’t imagine that’s as popular now as it was a couple of months ago.

I say it was a leak about the store mount.

Issue with that is…game has nothing to spend money on.

Speaking as a, but not for the, nasty filthy casuals of the world…I don’t need gold at some point. I got my 2 tokens buys at 200 a piece when I started late legion. 1 horde, 1 alliance.

I got tired of making 5 copper in then 1 to 60 leveling. Looms, mounts…this opened doors.

Its 2021…I have no expenses. I have learned paying 60K for a mog is regretted usually. Besides ginn-su…I use that one. I got 150K of mogs I never use. So…I don’t do that ah buy stuff anymore.

BOEs are lol funny priced and ultimately pointless.

if the game had viable ways to spend gold I see this. If I could take the 100K option on next ICC run to get the mount I will not lie. 100K would be paid. I tire of icc. 100k to end that? Oh hell yes.

BUt its not an option. So as I have 2 alts clear 6k every 3 days on callings I do as I wait for pvp pops. Thats all bank to bank alts. 12k minimal every 3 day cycle. 24k a week…give or take.

some say carries. Yeah…I have accepted my average play skill. I am sure many like me faced reality and we just do what we do for fun. I also know if I hate painsmith, and suck at it, in LFR to be show how average I am here,
paid carries to be 250 ilevel is not helping me.

My issue is not dps on the boss. or dying to “real” boss. Its the spikey floor “other boss” lol. The floor kicks my butt. Ashamed to say that but…is what it is.

million gold is not fixing me sucking at those spikes. On LFR. As heroic and mythic have painsmith being many peoples nemesis I know I do not belong there.

and thus my now game only made 1.4 million stays split on 2 bank alts really.

Some of us maximize passive gold so its so easy to make enough. 10-15 mins a day playing AH makes me 10-15k minimum more or less. Course I make more cause I play more but those are the days I don’t feeling like playing.
