are the millions of garrison lovers in the room with us now? cause i was there through wod. from pre-patch to legion. nobody loved garrisons during that entire span.
To be honest, we can’t be sure of that. The only thing you can be sure of is that an online game WILL change and that can include addition or removal of features and systems.
I would be very very sad. Although as long as they phase it out like the other shelved systems I am ok with it. Their method is not to remove what we had, but just not to add much new to it. Except First Aid, that is gone. We can still do Archeology in old zones and get the rewards/achievements. We can still use pets for battles, old content will still exist, and some new pets will still be able to battle in Midnight. It is not going away, although it is changing some. Feedback: Pet Battles
Honestly, most online games don’t last 7 years so if Housing lasts that long it will be longer than many online games exist for. I would call that a good run. I do think it will be very very popular and likely continue to be used long after people are “retired” from raiding. There is a huge audience that loves cozy games and cozy gameplay styles.
Housing = garrison as it will last maybe 1 or 2 expansions.
Blizzard implemented garrisons very poorly.
Yes if no one engages with player housing than why would they commit resources to it. Im sure blizzard is really sorry to all of the 6 people that did pets battles
We dont know this is the first supposed “evergreen” expansiom feature. We literally dont know
Archaeology and Pet Battles were both designed to be evergreen content. Player Housing is designed to be evergreen content.
Pet Battles are actually what got me to resub to the game at the end of shadowlands because I wanted to go collect some pets and battle them as I wasn’t getting that from FFXIV.
I remember near the end of shadowlands somebody remarked “Archaology and Pet Battles are the proverbial canaries in the coal mine, if they’re making the decision to kill rather than support them then they’re no longer committed to the game and are just shipping a product.”
On one hand, I sympathize with them since having to ship a continually profitable product is not an easy thing, on the other hand things must be very bad for the game’s outlook if we’re doing away with pet battle which represent one (1) additional full time job at blizzard to the best of my knowledge.
I do not want it to change, but also I don’t think Blizzard would ever even have a proper discussion about what it would take to get them to change their mind and either put pet battles back the way they were in dragonflight or work toward any sort of revitalization of pet battles, or even take internal pitches about what a revitalization of Pet Battles would look like.
(My supposition that it represents one (1) full time job is exemplified by the fact that they promoted the one (1) person continuing to handle pet battles into another internal role and now we have no pet battles in the current patch and potentially all future patches)
I don’t think The Pokémon Company/Nintendo is too worried about player housing. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it losing support any time soon.
they were fine, blizz just didn’t like the enormous amount of gold they produced for players at little actual gameplay. I don’t know who hated garrisons, but I loved them…
If we lose our houses at any point, I’ll just decorate one of my other ones in real life.
I don’t know what bloody trophies and placing braziers in out-of-reach places will do for resale value, but whatever.
If it dies in 13 years, they’ll discontinue making new stuff for it.
Meanwhile…
I doubt theyd remove it from the game any more than theyve removed class halls or the garrison.
At some point they may stop adding stuff for it if there is no real interest.
Of course they won’t. I was just being flippant.
If anything, they’ll keep housing active for as long as possible so they can sell unique furnishings in the cash shop and package them with deluxe expansion editions.
I’m still baffled people believe this unironically.
We can’t. But if enough people are using it, they’ll keep supporting it. A lot of folks spent a lot of year begging for housing. They better make use of their new toy. Or else Papa Blizz will be adding it to the big development garage sale.
Are you aware Nintendo has filed a very broad patent covering basically any system that has even the broadest similarities to Pokémon? My assumption is that the low popularity combined with the potential of a patent based law suit encouraged them to discontinue support
FTFY
There was a reason they didn’t continue with it.
I did my 1st Super Squirt weekend recently too, the last one we had.
Finally captured and leveled an Unborn Valkyr after wanting one for years also.
Then Blizz cancelled pet battles.

Blizz hated garrisons because they created player millionaires overnight…
