Is battlegrounds griefing bannable?

It’s starting to sound like you’re the exact reason why I go out of my way to be polite in BGs. There’s enough toxicity as it is.

The answer is yes. If Blizzard deems what someone is doing is detrimental to the playerbase and is done for no real reason other than to upset players there is a reasonable chance they will receive punishment. As far as what constitutes as actual griefing in the PvP aspect is a bit debated/situational. Generally PvP conduct will not be viewed as griefing, but entirely different when you’re talking about same faction griefing.

This is not griefing, or at best the bar is really high here to prove that it is. And the reaction you stated he gave isn’t really griefing either, it’s just reportable conduct.

The concept of griefing revolves around the idea that the offender’s sole mission is to just upset and obstruct other player’s natural gaming experience in a way that isn’t supported by the game’s design. To that extent you have to be able to prove that that is their intention.

To that effect you can’t grief an opposite faction player because you keep ganking them, that’s just the game design. But on a PvE server repeatedly killing questgivers could be seen as griefing. Or if you were intentionally dragging mobs onto a same faction player to wipe them, or even an enemy player on a PvE server, just to get them killed that could be seen as griefing just because a PvE server is designed as a server where factions can’t interfere with each other and you’re circumventing that design.

Not how the report function works. If enough report him he’ll get a debuff and if he doesn’t engage in PvP he’ll get kicked.

That’s not what happened. Let’s break this down:

The guy was performing just fine before you guys talked to him. It is only after you said something to him that he decided to behave like that. So, perhaps what you said didn’t come off as polite as you intended it.

So this dude is mercing the other team like crazy in mid and the rest of you can’t defend or cap?

Nice response. I wasn’t aware that’s how the AFK report works.

And it wasn’t the farming in mid that I’m calling griefing, it was the going AFK in GY. He made it very clear that his sole intention was to upset everyone else on our team simply because we asked him to get out of mid. Whether he was exploiting a game flaw or not is debatable. I wasn’t aware of how the AFK report system works, so I can’t possibly know what went on after we all reported him or how he got out of it.

that is not against the rules, and neither is being mean to team mates

there are rules about language but people say stuff in bgs all the time and nothing happens

He was padding his KBs instead of helping on D or O. He kept maybe two or three stuck in their GY. The rest of our team was having trouble with the rest of their team because half of our team was under-geared. Only 3 of us were pushing EFC and he was the next closest player on our team. We only needed him for a few minutes to kill EFC and no one would have cared if he went back to farming mid immediately afterwards.

@Felshout, for the third time, it wasn’t about the farming. It was about the going AFK and still somehow avoiding the AFK-boot.

So you’re mad that he couldn’t 1vs20?

I don’t know how you came to that conclusion, but it’s obvious you’re just trying to troll. I’d recommend re-reading the thread for clarification.

nothing will happen to him for that. blizzard knows people will go afk in online games, they dont punish it even if they are doing it to be a jerk

one of many reasons not to solo/pug wsg.

just make a premade and get on disc and this wont be a problem. Blizz won’t do anything about this.

Going AFK in open-world is one thing. Doing so in a battleground and then circumventing the established booting-system already in place is another thing.

No need for a forum post next time it happens; tell the hunter he’s a dumbass for trying to farm HKs when wins get more honor, block him, never hear from him again. Problem solved.

all he has to do is get in combat to clear the afk mark

it was a hunter and they can do that from really far away with hunters mark or the pet

blizzard wont do anything to him for this, people afk a lot more egregiously than that in bgs and nothing happens to them either. you have to break the rules pretty hard for them to actually do anything and they didnt

The option to indicate someone is AFK means “Away from Keyboard”. That is its exact meaning. Say someone ran back and forth killing rams and doing nothing else that players are doing. They are obviously not ‘away from keyboard’ so reporting them as such is, in effect, griefing THEM.

Someone doing what you don’t like does not make them reportable. It’s only reportable if it fits the criteria of reporting.

We’re supposed to farm honor and kills in BGs. I don’t think you’ll get very far with this issue.

So, this one dude had a third of the opposite team locked down single-handedly, and you were complaining about it?

Sounds about right.

So basically you didn’t like how someone else was playing the game, started barking orders at them to play the way you personally want them to, tilted them and then tried to abuse the report system to get them in trouble? Maybe you aren’t cut out for pvp.
