Is AU Draenor still connected to Azeroth

Is Alternate Draenor still accessible in lore? A portal to Ashran is being put in the new portal rooms and there are adventurers from Draenor running around.

Sylvanas said that the way to AU Draenor was closed in the mag’har orc quests. Does that mean that it is completely inaccessible or is it a situation like with the original dark portal where the door is closed but the connection is never really broken. Are powerful mages still able to open portals to AU Draenor?

All we know as fact is that we’re told the way is closed, presumably forever. But forever in Warcraft isn’t really forever. There are always loopholes, exceptions, workarounds, etc.

Maybe they’re using powerful interdimensional temporal magic. That, or the gameplay just doesn’t match the lore exactly.

It’s still closed. Even with the help of Oculeth, getting just you and Eitrigg there in the mag’har quest required a piece of the Vision of Time and the aid of a bronze dragon to properly empower it, with the explicit warning that such a portal could only be maintained for a short time. While there will surely be the means to reopen that connection in the future, in-universe it’s effectively impossible to accomplish.

Yup, the Ashran portals are most likely just for gameplay purposes, a quick way to get to Draenor in-game. In lore, it could be portals leading elsewhere less important or already represented elsewhere, like portals to places in Outland that’s not Shattarath.

AU was meant to be closed off forever.

Until it wasn’t anymore.

It’ll probably be opened up when Blizzard pulls WoD out of their “Rehash This Next” hat.

If Ash’ran is being revived as a battleground, the answer maybe yes, kinda, sorta, but not for mass transit.
