Is a sustained Stat squish feasible anymore?

That says one of two things to me:

  1. Said Blizzard employee doesn’t know what they are talking about. Highly likely because modern programming no longer requires engineers to know the minutia of the actual machine.
  2. The server code is still running on a 32-bit OS and they never ported the code to 64-bit. THIS, would be insane, but not out of the realm of possibilities.

Sorry, should’ve replied. Thanks for the insight, good to know and I appreciate the insight a lot. I suppose I’m more used to hearing from someone who was a bit more in the trenches on that level versus the modern separation, my bad.

CoPilot is not bad. I ask it questions about the game all the time and most of the answers turn out to be correct. I ask questions about a lot of other things and what it says makes sense. One time I needed a good example of how correlated subqueries work in SQL and it gave me an example. I tried it and it worked.

It makes the occasional mistake but not that often.

In any case I was responding to a question that talked about the computer power that the server needs. Current AI is fast enough because of the massive CPU/GPU power behind it. That would not be practical in a video game.

However in a limited application, where the system doesn’t need the tons of information necessary to answer world wide questions, and it is only running on information limited to the application, it should run faster using fewer resources.

Somehow I think the questions you might have for your NPC companion would be more than n=5. In a binary tree, 2 to the 5th power is 32. Between questing, gearing, dungeons, raids, gathering, production, transmogs, etc, there are more than 32 different things to consider in WoW.

But even then, are you trying to argue that each level should have may thousands of answers?

It’s a lot less effort 1 level of an if tree (or even 1 level of a switch statement) than to run an LLM.

When Season 1 dropped I thought it was cool to have a milestone of getting my Envenoms to crit for 1 million.

Now you crit for 30 million with Engulf as Devestation, at least in Delves maybe not in raid. My highest Engulf crit was 26 million, but that was a couple weeks ago already, people have more gear now.

I think the permanent solution is they need to stop injecting such absurd power creep season to season or adjust the weight each stat point allocates.

I genuinely think the stat per item should be reflective of your level - let’s say your level 90 - you can expect to get 90 total secondary stat from a non-end game green (says 45 stamina 45 agility)

When I talk about controlling power creep too - they really need to do that. I think I envision one season maybe only 5-10 additional stat points over the past season. It just needs to be weighted in such a way that 5-10 points is very significant.

its in ea, it had a good ea launch but lacks content so people are waiting before getting into it.

The way Blizzard handles Ilvl and stat progression/scaling these days makes it impossible to sustain low numbers for more than one expansion, specifically the one we got squished in. We’ll be back to doing hundreds of thousands of dps by the end of The Last Titan.

They can if they want to.

But players are the ones who (oddly enough) want more power scaling faster. Shadowlands they managed to keep in-expansion damage scaling to only ~3-4x, but people complained that they couldn’t solo BFA raids like you could do Legion towards the end of BFA when the in-expansion damage scaling was closer to 12x.

They just have to not power creep tier sets and trinkets quite so hard.

But on a percentage basis, power scaling in TWW hasn’t been that crazy. It’s just the baseline number was pretty high.

Yes, but they don’t want to. Blizzard has mentioned several times that players respond best to very large and significant jumps in power. That’s why they keeps increasing the Ilvl jumps between each season. Used to be only 15-20 back in Shadowlands. Now we are approaching 40.

In the last 3 years (end of Shadowlands to present day) we’ve seen an approximately 1000x jump in power. A bigger jump than going from vanilla to MoP. Can’t sustain that for long and not have the numbers cover up the entire screen with each press of a button. So squishing it is.

why do you care about big or small numbers. do you not understand that its all % based regardless

yea cause 2 billion health by now would bee real fun to keep track off ontop of having to scale mobs higher and higher and higher to be able to keep up with that. nah statsquish is fine
