I usually just tell people to pay what they can. Its not that big of a deal. If they can only pay 500g because they spent most of their gold on mats, then so be it. Feels better crafting something for someone and they respond with a nice response
lmao I paid 500 just as a thank you
You have every right to insist on charging what you feel is warranted. I wouldn’t pay 10k for any crafted item, but that’s also my right.
Edit: I supply the mats when I put in a crafting order. If I didn’t then paying 10k would make sense.
No.
People place public orders for Arclight Capacitors with no mats and 500g commission, but the cost of the missing mats that the crafter would bear is 10x the commission the customer is offering. Now that’s a scam.
You asking 10K for an insight seems steep, but it’s not a scam. That’s what you think it’s worth and as long as you continue to have high order volume and people willing to pay that much, you should continue to charge what the market will bear. I’m swimming in mettle so insights aren’t a sticking point for me. I charge based on difficulty assuming that a missive and an embellishment will be asked for.
Base | Wyrm | Aspect | |
---|---|---|---|
ilvl | 424 | 437 | 447 |
gold | 1,000 | 2,000 | 4,000 |
That’s in-line with what I typically see others charging. Sometimes I see a bit less or a bit more. Sometimes I see “free 447s”. Sometimes I see people asking 25K for a guaranteed max rank (mostly on R3 diamonds). I had someone ask 8K for a 424 Titanic Insight and I did ask that crafter to clarify that they charge the same for a 424 and 447, but they said “one price, free upgrades if you come back to me.” For me, the little commission table above is what I go by for making Blacksmithing weapons and armor, each order (doesn’t matter to me if I made it before or not).
I’m on Proudmoore, which is highly populated. Average market pricing on smaller servers is likely to be higher as there are fewer crafters and probably fewer gatherers so mats might be higher too. I have friends on Duskwood (tiny) that pay outrageous prices for mats and crafting. But it’s only outrageous in the context of what people pay on a different server; apples and oranges.
If you were asking 10K on Proudmoore, I’d probably look for a different crafter that’s more in-line with the average market pricing (1K to 5K).
no, charge what you want… just remember that there’s always someone else who will do it cheaper or free/just a tip.
if you’re using your materials / insight 10k sounds reasonable.
If it is theirs then yeah that’s a rip off.
I always love that one. “Come to me when they mess it up alright? If they are doing it for free, go to them and come back to me and tell me how it goes.”
It’s purely to swindle you.
This also falls into “my time my money” (Time id money as NPC Goblins say). Not always the case. I usually just tip 3000 to 20000 depending on what i need done.
And how fast i want it done. Usually /4 services and /2 trade will find you someone relatively quick and inexpensive to fee.
I have no idea how crafting actually works. So I post in trade, then send 3-5k gold. No one has complained and they keep crafting stuff for me.
You can charge what you want. Buyer can pay what they feel is fair or go away.
This new crafting process is so jacked.
It’s your job your price. People are free to take or leave it. If they want to ask why you charge but X person doesn’t, then they can just go to X person.
I personally tip 5k minimum anyway with how much gold I get casually playing. 10k wouldn’t be much more at all. I think crafters deserve it with how much time/money they have already put into their craft to be able to even make my item. I tip more if they need to craft something from the Brackenhide altar since that’s either A. time spent clearing a dungeon or B. money spent getting the cauldron.
Wow, those ally side prices are ROUGH. On Horde side most people ask for tip in my experience.
I do free insights because we’re all swimming in mettle at this point.
Unless you’re the only guy on your server with the neck recipe.
I’ve paid 10k, and if I don’t want to pay 10k, I find someone else. Paid 25k once even.
I think expecting half the server to transfer their gold to you just because you engaged with the crafting system every week for the life of the expansion is a bit much.
I also think buyers expecting you to ‘push a button’ and use your mettle for their craft while paying next to nothing is a bit much.
The obvious solution is to find the point where the two sides meet.
You find a price you are willing to accept that buyers also find acceptable.
Of course, all of this is Blizzard’s fault - this is the second expansion in a row now with some convoluted crafting system that is designed to allow the smallest bunch of ‘crafters’ to farm the rest of the population’s gold.
I guess someone has to work as a gold farmer for Blizzard so they can keep selling tokens while saying they aren’t actually selling gold.
I think expecting half the server to transfer their gold to you just because you engaged with the crafting system every week for the life of the expansion is a bit much.
Look, if I’m not getting paid 50k, not even going to push that button. Not worth the effort really. Especially, if I had to spam trade to meet you.
So I don’t spam trade, and I just do m+ and such.
Meanwhile, might do some work orders for negative gold for easy knowledge points.
Meanwhile those peeps who got the lariat recipe early in the expac were charging hundreds of thousands of gold per craft are now probably sitting on millions. What a shemozle that recipe was. I’m so glad I completely ignored that bum rush.
My goal is to pay around 5k. I will pay more if no one else is around and I want it asap. I am paying for speed/convenience at that point and I accept it . On A52
You’re free to charge what you want, but Mettle/Insight isn’t really much of a breaking point anymore.
Like, I have about 3500 mettle and 25 insights sitting in my bank, and I’m probably the most “known” LW on my server. I just let folks pay whatever they think is fair at this point, and I’ll just plonk an insight in there if I feel like it regardless of what they offered.
If they are forcing the guarantee to 5 star and not allowing you to reroll 10k sounds reasonable able since you have to use an Insight.
And also for rare pattens too that the crafter may have had to purchase at a large expense need to be recouped.
I bought a spore cloak pattern for decent chunk of change and I needed to recoup that, so I would charge 10k for it.
For anyone swimming in mettle make 3 star weapon enchants as a good mettle sink for gold. I think all crafting professions have a mettle sink for which they can make 3 star consumables or item enchancements.
I got tailoring and enchanting and I dump all my mettle into leg patches and 3 star weapon enchants.
