Is 8 masks actually hard

why ask the forums about something that you can directly test yourself?

i have yet to be able to clear a 5 mask.

after bashing my face against underpin ?? more than 500 times to get him down, I am not all that interested in doing something similar in visions.

there are a couple of packs, one in org and one in sw, that are obviously designed to break your run- multiple mobs that stun, area affixes that stun and/or fear, etc.

i don’t think that I have the patience to try to dissect each and every mob in these packs to see if i can do it.

the pack i am talking about in SW is particularly a pain because it is at the end of a tunnel and there are gauntlet style mobs going through the area at the same time.

the tunnel makes visibility almost impossible for me. just.not.fun.

That’s quite a lot. You must have a lot of perseverance.

But I would just wait for “guides” to get better. I haven’t been able to beat 8-mask yet, but once I “figure out” how to handle a specific thing (usually bosses/minibosses, and some trash packs), I can usually do it again.

Basically I’m saying success is much more repeatable in Visions. There’s not much RNG (if any). I personally don’t use any mods, but if you use mods to track things like the madnesses, it’s probably a fair bit easier. Once you can learn how to do all the things 3rd hand and not invest your own time figuring it out, you should give it a shot.

Lol

Anyways thanks everyone else so far for the input. Looking forward to using all of this data and anecdotes to help me clear it within the first couple of tries

Mechanically it is LFR easy. Punishment is near maximum.

Output expectations are weird. You need high enough to beat super buffed trash packs aka burst (or kiting) and high to burst certain unfair minibosses but overall output is whatever because sanity kills are what will get you almost always.

And forum people lean very hard into being left of bell curves in general with some few exceptions

You should see what I do in that section :stuck_out_tongue:

Would be curious. I kited back to the other zone because I simply couldn’t stop the stun/insta death from it.

Might of been fine as bm but wanted to see it though as mm.

Pull mobs, press halo. RUN AWAY.

I think I was in the drag before I turned around.

I didn’t find the Visions fun at all.
Not sure what it was, but the mechanics of the whole thing just felt not well designed and cheap.
Take it slow. Chaining mobs can get out of control quick.

So it seems like there is no 4 void circle with one exit circle…thing, this week. And we have gift of the titans back and you can get a WA to show when it can proc. There are still issues with Gamon spawning, even if you plan it, in the middle of a really bad pack. Like I just finished my 8 mask run in Org and he spawned in the last pack before Rexxar so I have to pop my CDs and then wait until they came up before I killed Rexxar.

But overall, this week is way easier. That void circles thing was the worst thing to deal with honestly. I am now done with visions.

Also, if you are seriously going for an 8 mask run, keep entering the vision until the 10% damage buff blacksmith guy is up and then do the attempt.

Apart from a few outliers such as Umbric, Rexxar, and the swarmer packs, I had little trouble as long as I took my time at 663 Ilvl. Orgrimmar was particularly easy for me as I never needed to use any orbs or the safety net res. Also, this week is pretty good for madnesses, as the corrupted and lost areas both have the easiest combinations to deal with. The starting area’s is a bit annoying, but Thrall is pretty easy to deal with anyway as long as you pay attention to his casts and kill the boars quickly.

Then again, some classes will have a tougher time than others, and I think that warlocks are on the easier side of things with our voidwalker tank, self sustain, and oodles of cc options. Shadowfury was critical for me dealing with the swarmer packs and Rexxar’s boars.

Fun warlock facts for visions:
1.Banish prevents the target from gaining vengeance stacks while banished.
2.Banish does not stop the faceless shadowcallers from chucking swirlies while banished.
3.Using grimoire of sacrifice to kill your demon has a chance to activate gift of the titans.

We got Gift of the Titans this week, so it should make a big difference.

Shaman DPS self-healing is so bad. I wait for Pstorm CDs and cheese with Gift of the Titan to kill some packs and Rexxar. Skip many packs as you can in the Valley of Honor area (the boss is Rexxar). This is pretty much a strategy for Enh players. I killed Rexxar in like 5 seconds with lust, it’s the best way to do 8 masks as Enh

it’s pretty much tank and spank, thrall just dodge 2 moves and you win, rexxar just sit on gift of the titans, kill a boar and win

the rest aren’t even a factor

If anything, just watch the counter at top for when gamon is coming, especially when a boss is coming up

The biggest block, wall, difficulty spike, whatever you wanna call it is probably from the mask that cuts sanity in half and the mask that causes too to take 400% more damage if you fail a sanity ability

Other than that combo you can just pull packs, spawn hogger to refill sanity and repeat

It’s definitely not easy, and I’m saying that as an average player.

The first thing to get out the way is class and spec matters. Just like Zekvir and Underpin some class/spec combo makes it beyond easy, while others (ie. Sin rogue) will just want to give up. For myself, I went in as a 682 Pally and switched between Prot and Ret.

If we compare 8 mask for SW and Org - From my experience SW is significantly easier. There’s too much to list but these were the pain points for me and how I felt they were easier.

Mini bosses

For both cities, the lower district’s bosses were equally easy. One can say SW is slightly easier than Org due to less mechanics and burst required.

However when it got to the Corrupted areas

  • Geya’rah is super simple
  • Shaw is simple once you get the feel of not facing the eyes
  • Umbric is a pushover for classes with plenty of interrupts but can be hell for those with less interrupts (ie. Warlock)
  • Rexxar is an absolute mess, from the tight space, the terrible camera angles, the 4 boars, the traps, the adds you then need to watch out for etc.

Just Rexxar alone makes Org a lot harder I feel.

Trash

  • Overall I feel SW is tuned better. There was never a moment I felt overwhelmed and I was doing triple packs at a time.
  • Org is a bit overtuned in the amount of interrupts and stops required - Especially when the mobs channel stuns. Couple the stuns with some untimely events and you’re pretty much cooked. This can be Ganon spawning, or some swirlies that’ll chew away your sanity like mad.
  • Another annoying part of Org is Valley of Honor - The packs are large, and a couple of those packs you can easily get stunned and similar to 2nd point above, you just drop dead very quickly. As a pally I can just run in with bubble or spellward, basically negating the poison and stun but no other class can do the same.

Final Boss

  • Alleria has abilities that you need to dodge, but the amount of time given is plenty. Multiple pillars to LOS, and you can slowly burn the boss down. The eye does no damage to you as long as you are positioned correctly, you can kick bombs way, you just need to not stand in swirlies and get hit by her cast, quite simple overall.
  • Thrall is a much more hectic fight in the things you need to dodge with the amount of time given and in a much more limited area in terms of space. You need to “burst” down the adds quickly, which shouldn’t be hard, but you also need to burst down the shield that happens during the fight. The circles are easy to get out of, the light circle is easy to find, but majority of players will have trouble with the frontal, which has a rather short cast time and when you get hit chances are things will chain and you’re dead.
  • For Alleria I was comfortable not casting my orb at all but for Thrall things got hairy for a moment when I got hit by frontal and in a few seconds I went from 90% sanity to proccing cheat death to almost dying (even after the 500 sanity given) and I had to buble + cast an orb to stay in the fight. Without the bubble I wouldn’t have been able to cast the orb and I would have died.

Last words - It’s definitely doable (but as mentioned I did it on arguable the easiest class, and being very gear helped a lot). Just be prepared to spend a fair bit of time, learn your limits, be wary of when Gamon or Hogger is going to spawn so you don’t spawn them in the middle of a 3 pack (Since Vengeance will hurt). If your class don’t have lust, use a drum on difficult bosses after you feel you can do it to make easier.

Ironically, while Long Night seems like the worst mask at first, by the time you’re upgraded and using 8 masks, it doesn’t even matter. Between Multitudes and Nemesis masks, plus 90% sanity loss reduction from the upgrades, sanity eventually becomes a complete non-issue, and all that matters is having the damage and priority targeting to handle the more dangerous packs of enemies.

If you learn the mechanics of the mini bosses and Alleria/thrall, you can beat 8 masks.

Fill out your full talent tree.

Then take the trash packs slow, hard cc one of them if needed.

I think as far as solo content in the world of warcraft goes it’s still on the harder side, though much easier with the full tree and gift than it was without. Timing gifts allows you to do previously extremely annoying things much much more easily, especially if you aren’t fully geared and couldn’t burst through them before.

Without gift I’d say it probably was harder than Underpin ??. With gift it’s easier than ?? if you utilize it well.

Spec/class also makes a difference though. If your class has a tank spec, swapping to tank spec for trash and a DPS for bosses makes it easier.

It’s pretty hard, yeah. I was having difficulty in SW the other day on my 667 DK. The main difficulty comes from managing your sanity, which can quickly deplete to 0 if you get stunned or trapped in a void zone, or if you fail to burst down an enemy with unmitigable sanity drain.

I imagine you could do it fairly easy in full myth though.

With full upgrades I cleared 5 masks with my rogue at 645
682 lock - 8 masks
Is it hard? Sometimes
Is it annoying? 100%
Also, they nerfed some of the ccs, and added a few qol improvements.
