Ion was wrong: Healers are useless on islands

If you’re looking at raw healing and getting your panties in a twist, you clearly don’t understand what block, parry, dodge, armor, or other active mitigation abilities actually do…they prevent damage taken whether or not the amount is added to the heal meter. Some do more healing and less raw prevention or avoidance.

But no, healers can’t have dps on par with dps or even close. If they did, there wouldn’t be a reason to ever play a dps. Why bother when you can do comparable damage but also switch to throughputting healing at a whim. Disc does it right now and it’s strong and it doesn’t do tank levels of damage, let alone actual dps levels. It might get bursty in short windows with cooldowns, but any dps (and rightfully so) should blow those numbers away. When disc did get close it got nerfed because the combination wasn’t balanced.

All you would have to do is make their damage spells expensive. They would have to choose whether burning the mana was worth it.

I prefer having a heal/DPS/DPS group, it’s great for safely stealing azerite and doing massive pulls

Clearly you werent around in Burning Crusade when disc priest absorbs and dps put them at the top of healers most wanted list. Mostly pvp but they were still very strong in pve.

This thread boils down to:

“Why can’t I top DPS while toping Healing Meters? WHY AM I NOT A RAID BOSS?”

Anyone remember the short time where death knights could top the healing and damage in a raid no less?

I am happy to see a tank, I sigh when I see a healer.

Meh, I don’t really care…they can come as whatever they want. I am not going to force or ask someone to change their spec I do enough damage to compensate. Also means I can pull huge groups.

So you think the argument that Ion just because he has only done 5k world quests is any better, and then the idea that just because he is mythic geared he has always been mythic geared and, as a consequence, doesn’t know what he is talking about. Doing 5k world quests is plenty to know how they are in terms of doing them as a healer, there isn’t any magical knowledge that is going to be gained by doing 20k.

People view things in different manners and tbh it is his view of things that is going to count on this.

There is something going on with scaling this expansion past ilvl 320. My characters that are ilvl 380 aren’t killing things much faster than they were 50 ilvl ago.

This is the last explanation of ilvl scaling I have seen. Having an ilvl scaling up to 320 only really makes no sense in view of this.

Also, stop being a obnoxious troll.

There are plenty doing world quests as healers - I see them quite often. If it was so bad I imagine people wouldn’t do them like that.

my wife is a mistweaver, she does upwards 10-12k dps while healing me…I have had dps in my groups barely break 9k.

I have no difficulty as disc while doing islands. My dps is compatible with some dps I am teamed with. Other times I wind up tanking. I suppose it would be an issue for some healers, but not all. What I think needs to happen is that if healer dps is not increased, self heals need to be nerfed or taken away from dps.

the problem i have with my disc priest on expeditions is you are totally at the mercy of your teammates capabilities

sure- if they are competent things are all fine and dandy but anything less than competency and expeditions are a slow and plodding experience

when i queue on my tanks it is the complete opposite as i can solo the whole thing pretty quickly

Ion actually is correct. I main a healer and completely understand why our DPS isn’t on par with DPS specs. I really don’t understand why you don’t. If our dps was higher, the perfect group for M+ would be a tank and 4 healers. Mythic raids? Two tanks and 18 healers. So, use your off spec or stay in heals, but quit whining about the dps. The alternative would be ridiculous.

Seriously? I’m playing the wrong class.

Before they broke fistweaving, my WIfe would be in the top damage while maintaining top 3 healing in raids used to drive people nuts.

They should buff healers so they do more damage while simultaneously healing their friends. It would help group play, it would make healing more fun, and in turn it would get more people to play the healer role which helps the community.

It doesnt stop at 320.
But to be fair after 360 you scale soo much more that the mobs scales becomes meaningless.

Any answer other than “yes, for some content” is deception.

Priests have a unique problem: they only have one non-healing spec. If the content doesn’t need a healer, and I don’t like Windwalker, I can go Brewmaster. If I don’t like Protection, I can go Retribution. If I don’t like Feral, I can go Balance or Guardian. If I don’t like Enhancement, I can go Elemental. If I don’t like Shadow, I either play Shadow (awkwardly) or go fake-DPS as Discipline.

Making Shadow attractive (or at least tolerable) to all Priests would be very difficult. It’s definitely beyond the capabilities of the current class developers. So a solution to this problem is tricky. Discipline could be turned into a DPS spec, but that would create animosity among happy Discipline healers.
