Just had his most recent interview. Said fine having BIS pvp gear only come from pve sources. Said fine the other way around as well but I don’t see any examples of that in the current system.
He did say that most pvp gear should come from pvp, and most pve gear should come from pve but I don’t see how he is actually implementing that or reconciling this with the statement above.
There is no escaping that pve feels essential to pvp gearing if it is much faster and can achieve better gear and stronger advantages. That is the current system.
There is nothing in pve that requires 10 bars of 385 gear to get your first 400 gear. I just don’t get a system that basically gives zero reward for 10 bars and a ton of playtime hours. A ton. I feel like Ion is actively driving pvp players into pve for some reason. Just huge carrots to do pve for pvp gearing.
I do agree with you here. THe best pvp gear should stem from playing PvP. The problem is that you then have the 5% who raid coming in on pvp only players and just crushing them.
I remember when I played RIFT there was some starter PvP gear to give you resilience so you weren’t screwed going in.
It wasn’t the best, but you could grind it out to be the best afte ra bit.
PvP is a side project and always has been. They’re not going to compromise their raid and Mythic+ gear progression by letting anything good out of PvP.
Yeha I feel like Ion is throwing away a lot of Kaplan and Ghostcrawler design decisions that held the biggest playerbase the game has ever had.
Now the game is 1/10th of what it used to be and he throws away all these founder and popular designs.
Is this some kind of behind the scene transition to prep for F2P? Is he throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks? Is there just a huge disconnect?
You will never make everyone happy, remember how many raiders cried over pvp gear being used in raids back in the day? Raids should give the best gear in the game hands down.
I do hope you guys get your vendors and stuff back. There really should be a clear divide between PvE and PvP that does not get crossed.
I personally really dislike PvP, and I still remember being forced to PvP for PvE stuff in the past, and it’s got me bitter still, but they did you guys dirty. imho.
Wouldn’t be an issue if there were pvp vendors. Instead pvpers have to pray that they get the specific piece they need instead of a box full of useless fish lol…
PvE has a gear vendor, why exactly does PvP not have one?
I think the problem stemmed from too few people PvPing. If a PvE player wanted to try, they’d get crushed until they accumulated PvP gear, which is quite a disincentive, so Blizz made all the gear the same.
Then of course, it was the PVPers that had to accumulate PvE gear, and the screams of “oh hell no, Ima not gonna do that” have been going on ever since.
Then they should do the pvp power/resiliance thing, but do something along the lines of benthic gear.
You can get a pvp set, that’s not amazing, but can be improved with a little bit of effort, to get you caught up so that you can participate without getting absolutely crushed through hours of grinding.
That way if someone -wants- to join PvP, they have something they can start off with, that doesn’t break things, but does allow them to participate without being dead weight.
pvp vendors
a good conquest catch up system
resil and pvp power on gear so pvp gear was best in pvp
pve gear was scaled down in pvp to a certain level after going past the cap
idk why blizzard removed the old system to being with there was nothing wrong with what we had. You could still pve to get pvp gear with justice point to honour conversion as well. Honestly it had everything lol.
