Introducing: spec skins

(Commentary): Unit Exacitor is in support of Class/Spec skins. Necromancer for Warlock is probably the most obvious example. Some race specific ones would be great too, like Blood Mages for Blood Elves. Turn the Frost Spec into the new Fire Spec so the Water Elemental can be the Phoenix. Turn the Fire Spec into a Fel spec.

Are you ready to develop all of this alone for free? Because blizzard wont.

Blizz already has an art team.

where? and define dark

No.

By dark i mean shadow/void.

Couldn’t for the life of me find the video i watched that had this purple Judgement armor dark paladin npc, or maybe i mistook with something else, it was a npc from a questline. Idk if it was platinum wow or bellular video. Not worth the hassle of looking so i will just give up: Edited my original post with a strikethrough on Dark Paladin.

We do have a Dark Shaman on siege of orgrimmar though using the power of the void and plenty of void shamans on org horrific vision.

I would support something like this for glyphs. There are a lot of themes like these that I’m sure players would love to use but cant.

There is also blue and white fire for mages, white frost for mages.

Silver light magic, loa based light magic, solar based light magic.

Melee would potentially suffer from this though. Like I cant think of a skin, beyond transmogging different weapons, for warriors, rogues, or hunters.

Yet they are using corruption and void right now aren’t they if they join necrolorss they are using death… so … how is this true?

It would be nice if they gave us more customization options. The amount of customization that other games provide, even from 15 years ago is insane compared to what wow lets us do.

Selecting color shades on powers, types of summoned minions sound like a great idea.

A Warrior who puts down his weapons and takes up poetry. Mortal Strike will be replaced by a ballad so devastatingly sad that any attempt to heal the audience’s broken heart will be reduced by half.

I like the shadowdin and necro ideas. I’ve seen this thrown about and I think it’s a great idea. You can get everything you want from a new class fantasy and none of the headache of trying to balance a new class. I mean, I’m having fun on my DH which is just easy peasy to wreck with compared to other classes. It’s getting drawn back, which is probably good as far as several aspects of the game like pvp are concerned.

My point is we wouldn’t have those headaches if they adopted skins for existing classes instead of trying to invent totally new ones. I’ve never played a lock past 25 or so because I’m not so much about their pets, so it would be like a new class to me if they reskinned it as necro. And one I’m sure I’d be happy with, I have no real issue with warlock gameplay they are just about the lowest on my aesthetics meter though as stands.

I wish I could like this more than once…I loved insect swarm.

I believe you because the class skin system you suggest would only work for those that have access to the class obviously and void elves can’t be paladins so they would not have the opportunity to do the quest you suggested. Sadly you have to be very careful how you post things because people are chomping at the bits to “fight for their cause” or “fight the cause”.

Side note I would love to see demonology warlocks trade in their demons for undead as a glyph/class skin

An overhaul to the glyph system would allow something exactly like this to work…

D&D actually does this. All a paladin is, is a soldier that uses the power of faith to smite enemies. Evil paladin or anti-paladin exist. One could make the case for turning the darkness upon itself. Using the void to fight the void after purifying the mind and body through rituals, etc.

I’ve been talking about this for a while, ever since Allied Races came out, Allied Classes or Class Skins. But instead of a Glyph it’s a racial thing, with maybe an option to remove it at an NPC if for some reason you like the old effects.

Some possible options:

Paladin:

Vindicator (Draenei & LF Draenei), all specs, replaces the existing human themed racials with space goat ones. Such as Naaru wings for Avenging Wrath, or a light forcefield for Divine Sheild.

Sunwalker (Tauren snd HM Tauren, all specs), Likewise, this time with more tribal and native american themes. More Orange abilities resembling the Sun.

Prelate (Zandilari), more troll themed abilities, such as a big glowing voodoo mask for Divine Sheild, or a ghostly visage of Rezan when using Guardian of Kings.

Blood Knights (Blood Elves), More Sin’dorei themes, paladin mount being a Holy Hawkstrider. Perhaps some red outlines here and there to pay an homage to old Blood Knights.

Deprecator (Void Elves) - A “void paladin” the same mechanically as Paladin, easy to put into lore. (The void elves learned to use Melee)

Preist:

See the above.

Lightforged Draenei should have a Light reskin for Shadow Preist and Disc; and Void Elves need a full Void skin for Holy Priest and Disc priest.

A more white version of Priest for Night Elves and Nightborne, to reflect priestesses of Elune.

Warlock:
Void Elves need a Void glyph for Destro.

Monk:
Draenei and LF Draenei should have abilities themed after Jed’hin to reflect their heritage. Currently Monk abilities are too panda themed, which works for other races that do not have any historical monk lore.

Shaman:
Dark Iron Dwarves need a Fire and Earth thened reskin of Restoration. Flinging Water around as a Lava Dwarf feels bad.

I once played a character in a D&D game. The DM had us roll for race alignment and class. I ended up with a chaotic evil goblin paladin. The DM said that combo makes zero sense. I replied, “Even dark gods have champions.” Dark paladin, I like that idea.

This would have unintended consequences with the cosmology of wow and the foundation lore.

For example: The issue I see is that, if a Ret can change to a void paladin, and still have access to Lay on Hands, Word of Glory and Flash of Light - all direct heals that don’t harm the user - Disc priests (and shadow priests) might start questioning “so why can a paladin get a direct cast, massive heal that is now based off void that also doesn’t harm the receiver?”

It’s a cool aesthetic concept, but I think it creates some issues such as these. Many classes are tied intrinsically to a certain cosmology in wow. Allowing some transiency between those - while probably ‘acceptable’ within the confines of that class - and it actually appears to water down the cosmology / powers of other classes.

Just my quick take. I have zero issues with other races becoming paladins. Maybe the Ren’dorei search for some shiny bauble that, once held, helps stabilize the chaotic void forces within, thus allowing them to undergo the light forging trial? (since I’ve started with Ren’dorei, I’ll add other ruminations for funsies)

Maybe Classic Draenei seek to harness the loosely controlled forces of demons, after the Legion’s fall, and they work closely with human, gnomish and dwarven Warlocks to tap into Fel…safely?

Maybe Orcs, Classic MU Orcs, start channeling the inner light of former Horde paladins, and - because of Orcish ancestry worship - these spirits have lingering connections to the Light and this allows them to become paladins. This is their deity - still unequivocally ancestral worship, but channeling the faint remains of the light.

Just some ideas, shooting from the proverbial hip…

I wouldn’t at all mind more class/race combos. Orcs wielding the Light has always looked ridiculous to me even for the Mag’har Orcs, but I simply don’t roll one and let it be.

I just knew this was your plan.
Leave Paladins alone! Quit trying to taint them with Void or Shadow crap.
