Instead of this, How about that: 5% Drop Buff?

Instead of a 5% buff, how about a system where players can get one guaranteed drop a month. Link it with the Darkmoon Faire event where players can do a quest to get a token, and they use that token before the boss to guarantee a rare item that they don’t have yet from that boss. This token will only work for older expansion content 2 or more expansions ago.

It’s unfortunate we have a system where players who spend hours if not years farming old content for items they’ll probably never see and it’s sad we’ve had some pass away without getting the items they were going for. RNG is good when the content is current and relevant but for content that’s 10+ years old, it’s a huge downer.

Thoughts?

Cue the scream of “timegating!!”

Would be a fun way to tie Darkmoon Faire prize tickets into a more evergreen reward, which then gives more reason to be excited for the faire for max level players too if you don’t care about the EXP buff on alts

or how about instead of 5%, it becomes 50%.
That way everyone resubs, which = more money for blizz and everyone is happy to get the mount they always wanted.

Players will just be mad that they can only get one item per month.

I dunno, I feel like the BMAH kinda already covers this. Most rare drops are available over there, at least before they kinda stopped updating it.

Maybe I’ve just been kind of lucky, but trading the 5% for one guaranteed drop seems like a terrible deal to me

Yes people can just farm gold and buy the rare mount drops from the BMAH - it is why I believe putting the rare mounts on a vendor in Legion remix is not necessary

RNG is the real timegating if we’re being honest

Not necessarily because the BMAH items are random and players may not have the gold. Plus the chests from the BMAH are RNG as well.

They won’t.

Random and requires gold caps, which is far harder to get than running the same raid hundreds of times for most players.

Well you have two options to get the mounts, you don’t need a third option.

Sorry

I believe that’s how RNG works, luck, which isn’t the same for everyone.
A guaranteed drop will fix that.

You’re not Blizzard.

Eh, I never said it was a perfect alternative, but it’s still an alternative. If you’re worn down by running something and not getting a drop, you can just wait for it to show up on the BMAH and buy it there instead. The stuff that’s still obtainable elsewhere usually doesn’t go for that much, at least not compared to the otherwise-unobtainable stuff.

You must of missed where I said it’s not always guaranteed to be there plus a player might not have the gold for it.

You don’t have to agree with me but the whole point of this thread is to move from an RNG system for outdated content.

It is a thing you spend time on because you want to. If you don’t fancy doing it… then… don’t?

You get additional stuff in addition to the mounts and stuff like that, so… why would they change this to something more permanent? It is just a mount and something to work towards. If one doesn’t want it, then … don’t do it.

Simple as that.

how about instead of 50% it becomes 500%? everyone will be so sick of deleting duplicate mounts!

I didn’t miss it. Just clarifying that it’s the alternative to hunting for drops. To spin it around, there are folks who prefer buying these things from the BMAH because they don’t want to bother with random drop rates, and/or they don’t have the time to spend on those things. Both options are appealing to different players.

Anyway, RNG is kind of the point of these things. If they’ve been RNG from the start and they’re strictly optional collectibles, nothing really needs to be changed about them unless their acquisition method gets broken somehow and they become unobtainable by accident.
