Instead of Blood Elves

I mean obviously the OP twisted someone else’s vague recollection in order to stir the pot.

I just figured when he said :

He was taking about his entire post.

Could be. Let me make the point I’m making a little clearer.

Leading with “Blizzard made some blatantly sexist comments” that turns out to be loosely based on an unreliable source’s vague recollection in one AMA thread doesn’t give the impression you want to have a fun hypothetical.

Fair enough. I’ve looked at the reddit thread now. Can’t say I’ve ever seen that quote before. I daresay most players haven’t. The way you paraphrased it though doesn’t really convey what was said in a flattering way.

I’m a woman & I don’t find the comments to be “blatantly sexist.” If you would like to say this is a vague recollection that’s fair; however, it’s not fair to cast Xelnath as an “unreliable source.” I see no reason why he would be & it’s hard to imagine that someone who sees something sexist in the comment is going to miss the (unwarranted!) implications in such a statement.

I’m not sure why you would have the impression that I wouldn’t want a fun hypothetical, considering that was the entire point of this thread, and so much so that I even provided a counterexample for the Alliance that I feel fits.

Those big Night Elf hands threw us off

Alex wasn’t what I’d call reliable. Only people I know with a positive view of the guy all play Warlock, and I trust them about as much as I do him.

Half-jokes aside, whether you find ‘girls like pretty things’ as an absolute to come across as sexist or not, I’m just telling you how the post reads. Not my thread, not my responsibility.

That’s a tough one.

Harpies - Pretty but no refinement whatsoever, just bloodthirsty and violent. Violent history with everyone.

Satyrs - Could be updated to be conventionally pretty, but it’s a hard sell. Definitely refined. Violent history with everyone.

Centaurs - Can be pretty, but lack refinement. Has more reason than the above to hate the Horde so there would have to be a splinter faction.

Nightborne - Horde already has them. They are refined and pretty.

Arakkoa - Refined, pretty (kind of traditionally) but will be maligned due to the furry allegations.

These are the only things that stick out to me, and Horde already has one of them. Azeroth and other worlds are filled with races people would consider furries, and those are pretty much the only choices left. It’s either furry or demi-furry, or some flavor of elf or troll. Not much in the way of something giving the Horde something traditionally pretty while also having refinement. Most likely, the choice for Horde boils down to refined furries or pretty but bloodthirsty savages.

Can of worms, lol.

Alexander Brazie @ Xelnath

@Aldo_WoW_420 Blood Elves were introduced to the Horde for multiple reasons. Aesthetic diversity was one. Eastern Kingdom’s horde base was another. Thematic connection to the expansion awas as well. 10:46am - 24 Jan 2019.

But that one Reddit comment that is held as Sourceis this…
OH - one thing I vaguely remember was that Blood Elves were based on a STRONG request from a poll of asian players (either korean or chinese - I can’t remember which was live at that point) - where many remarked on the horde side that they and their girlfriends wanted a non-creepy femme race to play. - Xelnath. 2018.

Off the cuff saying “I vaguely remember…” isn’t an 'official developer statement.

I think the following statement holds more weight…

'Blood Elves were chosen as the Horde expansion race in the Burning Crusade because designers were thrilled with how well Samwise had redesigned the classic wood elves with the night elves. And they knew that, “one day, high elves are going to have to get a facelift, too.

“I don’t think anyone has abused high elves to this degree,” Metzen said."

I wonder if Naga would have worked? They are ‘noble’, although corrupted.

But I’m VERY glad for Blood Elves, Thalassian Elves are my favourite race and their inclusion in the Horde was, to me, always the best decision Blizzard made regarding the Factions.

Even after all these years, blood elves still do not fit in with the Horde.
Especially since they are no longer evil elves.

Regarding horde…
Perhaps Harpies with shapeshifting abilities similar to the drac’thyr.
a vampire race - san’layn for EK Horde?
some sort of of Botani dryad race from outland
sayaad-like-beings

ethereals are pretty refined. they’re also (technically) neutral, but i could see the horde getting them to join’em. atleast, back in bc, now not so much.

…by join’em, i mean join ONLY the horde. can’t see them do that now. maybe join both sides, but not just the horde.

That’s a nice quote you made up there.

Well, now that the elven zones in Kalimdor and EK are easily connected by boat, maybe you will have your wish in Midnight and they’ll make an elf faction and 3-way pvp (I wouldn’t get my hopes up if I was someone who is still crying about BC)

what

soooo speculation then, and nothing officially from Blizzard.

God did they fumble that ball.

It’s simple speculation from people, not the reason.

The draenei make the blood elves look rustic which is even funnier. Bestial or not one group lives on a starship and the other is half defined by their relationship to a forest.

Well they got Nightborne. So…

This should have been Highmountain Tauren. They have history with the NE’s stretching back as far as the first legion invasion. It was the perfect tie in. But Blizz will never add any of the original Horde races to the Alliance side even though pretty much all of the original Alliance races are available Horde side now.

I mean, hyper advanced alien race with technology that is lightyears ahead of what Azerothians could be capable of being “Bestial and Savage”

High elfs. They are the blood elfs basically. But they been in the game since vanilla in blasted lands.
