So imagine my face when I realize that this is still a problem. I step in to an invasion to level my Warlock and lo and behold I'm stuck in combat.
Thinking I can walk it off, I head off to the nearest invasion from the Ruined Sanctum which is located just east of Nat'thalas Academy.
Still stuck in combat.
Okay, that's pretty awful. Seriously frustrating. Dismiss pet! Nope.
Alt F4 the game, go run errands for about 15 minutes and log back in.
Still in combat.
So what do I do now? Wait another 14 years in hopes that this is finally fixed?
Oh hey it looks like it finally dropped by the time I nearly reached Ley-Ruins of Zarkhenar.

Farming herns in Drustvar with my rogue sometimes I need to go to another map to leave combat.
Vanish and alt+f4 are not working for me, only leaving Drustvar.

I have joined the "Constant Combat" Club.
Was out questing and it showed up.
Feign Death, Disengage, ReloadUI. None worked.
Hearthed to Dalaran and it finally went away.
Portaled back to Boralus, and it showed again.
So now I am stuck again, unable to use transportation.

Just gonna reply here incase it helps anyone else with this issue.
I encountered the same thing while doing invasions on an alt, I was able to fix it by simply killing my character, and everything returned to normal

Running into this issue on an alt of mine. Leveling in Pandaria, getting stuck in combat. Have to kill my character in order for it to drop, only for it to get stuck in combat again – Invisibility and hearthing do not work, nor does Ice Block (just for laughs). Tried logging out and then back in again, seeing if that works.
Theres some mobs in Stonetalon that do this as well, from my experience its usually mobs that are fighting npc’s in a ever lasting battle. If you run through them or do something that effects the npc’s in anyway it can cause a massive combat issue. I was stuck in combat all the way from Stonetalon to Orgrimmar one time.
