Nothing in theory is inherently bad to say. Pointing out someone’s DPS is lacking is not toxic. I don’t think anyone disagrees with that sentiment.
Where we disagree is how it’s framed. I’ve always maintained that telling someone they need to do better with their DPS is not a bad thing, but conveying that to them with inflammatory language and remarks is.
Case in point, it’s okay to say “Hey, your DPS isn’t all that great,” but it’s not okay to say “Your DPS is trash.” One doesn’t use negative denotative/connotative language, the other does. It’s not difficult to see why the latter wouldn’t jive with someone.
The disagreements seem to be coming from the fact that people think it’s okay to use such language and they try and obfuscate these remarks by making strawman arguments like “you aren’t your DPS” or “I’m not criticizing you, I’m just criticizing your DPS,” basically arguments that fall apart when you contextualize it with just about anything else (AKA you wouldn’t tell someone their cooking is trash or their writing is trash unless you were setting out to upset them). Oh, and also the “you’re just too sensitive” gaslighting arguments.
I don’t think it’s any worse than previous expansions. And yes, I do report. I don’t want to see that crap. After warnings come suspensions, which can eventually lead to account closures if they continue the behavior.
People being increasingly more toxic as of late isn’t just a World of Warcraft problem. It’s an irl problem.
As we moved out of the pandemic, a lot of people are recovering from the stress that caused. Then we get crippled by inflation. Double back to back pains that severely hinder our lifestyle.
Pair that with in game challenges that Blizzard seems to not care about. They promote a game that has perfect class balance which will never exist. And as of late, there’s a huge disparity between meta and nonmeta specs more than ever.
The tuning on the dungeons right now at the moment is the actual joke. People are incredibly high strung because you have a key like halls of valor, which is impossible to chest with even one or two people dying and not double pulling the whole time.
Meanwhile, you can stroll into his shadow moon, burial grounds, and seven chest it without even trying.
Everybody, is incredibly high strung because of a multitude of reasons, those of which Blizzard hasn’t really taking the time to try to solve. I don’t understand how Blizzard can consistently nail the small details with everything in the environment and the ambience and fail so miserably at the most glaring things.
It doesn’t but it is the easiest form of content for it to show up. Like if someone is underperforming in raid you bench them or kick em from the guild if its a recurring thing. Mplus is extremely pugged content the casual and unskilled player base steps into alongside the better players. Combining the two ends of the spectrum gives a better rise for it to occur, though I personally dont see how telling someones who dps is trash or fails mechanics they have trash dps or failed something they should know before going in is toxic but for some reason people think it is
I am guessing this is in the area of the game that foster competition: M+, Myth raids, pvp. That is what competition does to anonymous people on the internet, brings out their inner douch.
Out side that, everyone I have interacted with has been pretty chill. Most of the time I am duo’ing with a random horde player and we salute after.
As the definition of toxicity expands, it will eventually encompass all activity. I haven’t seen toxicity in this game since like WotLK when this dude tried to talk me into unaliving myself when he found out I was going through a bad divorce.
Thank you . It amazes me how people find a comment like your dps is trash as a personal attack/harrassment. Its like no im saying your dps is trash not you as a person those are two seperate things.
Lock : “Tank, your pulls are inefficient”
Me : “We would’ve 2 chested if you had not wiped 3 times on the boss, 7 interrupt for the whole dungeon Warlock”.
Super toxic. I can’t even. My route did not account for the lock not using his interrupt on last boss, how dare I.
Seriously though, if this is what people consider toxic, exchanges like these, I don’t even know what to say. That was tame as heck and I just redid another 17 2 minutes later, and that group 2 chested because peeps interrupted.
